Performance (40% of the final score) – units like this one is why I came up with that new S&C point. The leaders in this industry are now so well performing that its ridiculous. As it stands, that point stays with this unit because it handled those overshoot transient tests with no trouble at all. All the points stay for regulation as well… at 0.18% average in the hot box, this unit is well within mythic level numbers. And all the points stay for efficiency as well… we saw Gold when we wanted to see it: all the time. And ripple? You find me the guy that says 9mV or under for all three main rails is a bad thing, and I’ll smack him with a wet noodle. 10.

Functionality (20% of the final score) – I have to pull that half point again for in cable capacitors. I don’t like them… they make cable management challenging at times, as I found with my T2 850W unit. I really hope the T3 units, should they be coming, are able to lose those capacitors. Seasonic can pull down ripple numbers like this without the caps, so EVGA and Super Flower need to work on that. I am almost at the point of making a deduction for the wire gauge on the PCIe cables as well, but I think I’ll be nice this time and let it be. We do have cables with single connectors, so you can use them if you have a watt monster video card. Otherwise, I can’t see anything else to complain about. Can you? 9.5.

Value (20% of the final score) – $119.99 is the going rate at NewEgg right now. That puts it $20 over the price of that Thermaltake from last week, and $10 over the cost of a G2 unit. But while this unit is more expensive, it is also better performing than that first unit. Even so, the Thermaltake does have features this one does not, like a light up fan and is more efficient. And the G2 is still cheaper right now. So, I’m going to go ahead and do the same 9.5 score for this unit as the Thermaltake. Both units have different things going for them, they come in the same size housings, and are both hard to compete with in terms of features for the money.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) – absolutely beautiful. 10.

We have here another amazing unit from EVGA, it comes as no surprise to me to say. While this unit isn’t quite the competition killer that the 1kW model is, and isn’t quite as well performing, we are really splitting some fine hairs talking like that at this level. When the only real competition for performance is another unit in the same line or a Seasonic Prime, you’re just laughing your way right to the bank at that point. Anything at or near this price had better bring something it doesn’t have, like the RGB fan in last week’s review unit, or you’re pretty much sunk.

  • amazing voltage regulation
  • better than excellent ripple control
  • smooth power on transient behavior
  • fully modular
  • lots of connectors
  • semi-fanless mode can be disabled

The BAD:

  • extremely minor nitpick – let’s do away with the in cable capacitors now, yes?
