Page 6 - Scoring

Performance (40% of the final score) - and we come to the score again. This unit will do a little better than big brother. Thanks to better ripple control, there will be no point deduction there as this unit was excellent all the way across. No points come off for efficiency, obviously, as this unit was somewhat closer to Gold. No points come off for the performance in the power on spike tests, because this unit was smooth and continuous. But a half point will still come off for regulation, because the hot box results were just a hair on the wrong side of the line for mythic level. 9.5.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - this unit is like big brother in every way that matters here. Half a point off for semi-modularity, half off for the Berg connector. Everything else is just dandy. 9.

Value (20% of the final score) - I've got a real beef with Newegg right now for them wasting the better part of a month of my time by taking money for video cards, never shipping them, then making me wait well over a week for a refund, but I suppose we'll go back there for comparison's sake. This unit runs $55.90 there right now, which sounds absolutely like a killer deal to me. I don't see a lot of competition there for it, except from the Corsair CX line. 10.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) - one point bye-bye for the fan, half a point for the missing surge protector. 8.5.

Total Score

Besting its big brother in the total score by a few tenths of a point, BeQuiet has a very attractive little unit here that should not be overlooked if you need something decent on a budget. Are there things that could be improved? Yes. That's the case for most units on the market. Here's the bottom line... if I weren't a reviewer getting piles of these things in here on a regular basis in exchange for writing about them, I'd probably buy one of these for mainstream builds. I've always had a thing for FSP reliability, and this one has the performance most native FSP units don't have. Not seeing much of a downside, really.

The Good:

  • almost mythic voltage stability
  • almost Gold efficiency
  • excellent ripple control
  • really affordable

The Bad:

  • nothing

The Mediocre:

  • enough with the Berg connectors, PSU industry
  • doorbell just rang and I don't remember where I put those pants
