Page 6 - Scoring

Performance (40% of the final score) - the performance of this beast speaks for itself. Voltage regulation was, on average, a mere 0.13% in the hot box; making it as mythic a unit as I've seen. No deduction. Efficiency was a close pass for Titanium cold and a clean pass hot. No deduction. Finally, there's that amazing ripple performance. 14mV was the worst of it, and you can't take anything away for that. So, I won't. 10.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - I can think of nothing to complain about here, either. Cables are right. Connectors are right. We got lots of accessories. Documentation couldn't be much better. Fanless mode works as well as any I've seen. 10.

Value (20% of the final score) - $179.99 at Newegg will get you one of these, which means there's still a price premium for Titanium level efficiency. That's to be expected... it takes time for manufacturing to become affordable for this level of efficiency, and we're just now getting there with Platinum. What was not expected was for me to go visit Newegg today and see this thing undercutting EVGA's also amazing T2 unit by ten bucks. Yes, that one does have a rebate available that makes it a lot cheaper, but I cannot score rebates. A lotta tens being thrown around today. Here's one more: 10.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) - can't think of a single thing to complain about here, either. Here we go again... 10.

Summary

I don't just throw out perfect total scores lightly, folks. In ten years of doing this, I've only done it a handful of times. The AX1500i was the first, and the EVGA G2 550 was the latest, I believe. Hard to keep track of these things when it's all you do, over and over. In order to get such a score, a unit has to convince me it has nothing to score against, and I look hard for things to score against. In fact, I think this is the first time Seasonic's ever had this honor under their own name. It's well deserved. Now... can the rest of the line do this well? Good question. I look forward to finding out the answer.

The Good:

  • amazing voltage regulation
  • fantastic build quality
  • amazing ripple suppression
  • semi-fanless mode
  • fully modular
  • ten year warranty
  • you know, I could go on for hours on this one...

The Bad:

  • yeah, right

The Mediocre:

  • not happening
