Performance (40% of the final score) - the last time I looked at the X series units, I gave the X-650 a perfect score. However, though this model isn't really any different, I'm going to have to go a little harder on it than little brother, I think. Ripple suppression was amazing, and you can't fault that efficiency or the voltage regulation. But I can't quite ignore the slightly out of spec spike I saw on the 5VSB rail when it was maxed out either. So, I'm giving this unit a 9.5.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - there's just nothing I can fault this unit on, here. The X-750 is fully modular, has the ability to go fanless, has cables of differing lengths to assist in cable management, and all of those cables are well sleeved. 10.

Value (30% of the final score) - AlrightDeals has this unit for $147.47, as long as you're not paying by credit card. That's on the high side for this vendor, with only one 750W unit above it. Units like the Corsair TX750 are cheaper. However, said Corsair unit isn't modular. In fact, to get any competition for this unit at this vendor, you need to look at the Corsair HX850, which is fifty beans more expensive. Then again, you can also find the 750W version of the Corsair someplace else for cheaper than this unit. So, I'm going to call this good but not excellent value. 9.

Aesthetics (10% of the final score) - like the X-650, I've seen a couple units I liked the looks of a bit better. Same score for this unit as little brother got. 9.5.

Summary

Once again, the Seasonic X Series has come into my lab and impressed. Much like the 650 watt version of this platform, the X-750 is one well performing unit indeed with only a few minor issues to curb its appeal. I'm looking forward to seeing what Seasonic can do in the not so distant future thanks to the foundation these 80 Plus Gold units has provided.

The Good:

  • extremely low ripple and noise
  • very good voltage regulation
  • goes fanless at low loads
  • fully modular
  • efficient
  • quiet

The Bad:

  • ever so slightly out of spec voltage spike on the 5VSB overshoot transient test

The Mediocre:

  • Batman still hasn't hooked his up yet... someone get him a flashlight now, please
