Internally, we can see that the Core Edition 550W uses the Seasonic S12II platform, very much like the Core Edition 450W. Even the fan is identical:
So now let's score the 550W.
Performance (40% of the final score): Just as with the 450W version; this unit is 80 Plus Bronze, which is good, but not the best we've seen lately. The ripple and noise suppression was pretty good too. But we once again see unusual +12V regulation that goes up when the PSU is taxed. At least this time, the voltage remained in specification at all times (although barely during the first crossload test). So for performance, the 550W is getting a 8.5.
Functionality (20% of the final score): Once again, the XFX Core Edition 550W is a fixed cable power supply. Since it's not modular or even semi-modular, it can't get a perfect score, but it does come in a very compact size and the packaging really does a good job of protecting the unit. For this, I give the unit a 9 in this category.
Value (30% of the final score): The price of this unit is $70 at Newegg today. That makes it one of the lower priced 550W units on their site. So for value, I'm giving this power supply a 9.5.
Aesthetics (10% of the final score): The XFX Core Edition 550W has a basic look, no frills and comes in a compact size. The cables are all sleeved and basic colors are used. For this, I'm giving this power supply a 9.5.

So because of slightly better voltage regulation and a more competitive price point, the 550W version of the XFX Core Edition squeaks by with a jonnyGURU.com Recommended award.
The Good:
Efficient
Small
Good price
Five year warranty
The Bad:
Still has wonky +12V regulation
The Mediocre:
Marketing overload... as usual
UPDATE!
Seeing how my test results were not consistant with other review sites reviewing the same two power supplies, I have retested both units. The results are on the next page.....
