Today, I'm taking a look at the modular Tagan 530W Easycon power supply. The box tells us that this power supply has "the Power of Silence." Interesting tag line. I wonder if it lives up to that.

The back of the box shows a graph that shows the fan's RPM in relation to the load on the PSU (probably a factor of typical temperature during particular loads) as well as what the decibel rating at each RPM should be.

This side of the box also shows the "combine rail" switch and what the power output capability of the power supply is with the switch in each of the two positions. The combine rail switch takes the two 12V rails and combines them into one. This is similar to the "Rail Fusion" some Topower units use, except is is manual and not automatic. There's a light that lights up if you overload one of the 12V rails and this suggests that the rails should be combined. We'll talk more about this later.

On the side of the box, Tagan shows the cables that come with this modular power supply.

Let's go ahead and open the box and see what we have inside.

Above, we can see the power supply with it's 120MM intake fan. Exhaust comes out of the honeycomb punched grill in the back.

Above is the side of the power supply that goes inside of the case. Here we can see we have a fixed 24-pin, 4-pin and 8-pin and our modular connectors. The two blue connectors are for the two PCI-e cables. The six black connectors are for the peripheral Molexes and SATA connectors. The small four pin converts the fixed four pin cable into a second 8-pin.

Above is a picture of the separate box that all of the cables come in. The box shows pictures of all of the included cables and a brief description.

As I open the box (below) I can find the manual, power cord, dust caps for the modular connectors and all of the modular cables.

Let's go ahead and do the cable count while we have this box open...

The PCI-e connectors have very large covered ends on them. As does one of the Molex connectors, which is labeled "VGA/HDD." These three connectors also have a ferrite core around the cable for EMI reduction. All of the cables are sleeved except for these three cables which actually have a rubberized coating on them.

Above is a close up of the "combine rail" switch. This switch changes the two 20A 12V rails into one 33A rail. In the lower right, you can see the LED that lights up when the 12V rails are overloaded.
