Time flies, does it not? It seems like only yesterday that I was taking a look at the brand new EVGA G2 1000W unit, and yet that review took place over three years ago. Since then, the market has hardly stood still. In that time, Titanium units have begun to pop out of the woodwork, bringing with them in some cases even better performance than we had come to expect from the last generation of amazing units. Case in point are the Seasonic Primes... units with regulation so good I now need three decimal places on my meter to tell me just how good they are.
EVGA is moving right along with the rest of the power supply universe with this here G3 1000W unit. Once again, they've teamed up with Super Flower to do so, a company that has proven itself ready, willing, and definitely able to tackle Seasonic on their own turf. This ought to be one heck of a good review as a result.
As the latest and hopefully greatest of EVGA's Gold units, there's some marketing to get through. It's not immediately obvious from this just what makes this unit such an improvement on the last generation G2 model, though I do find it really promising to see 1% regulation being promised on the box. It also appears to be smaller than the G2, which would be a definite improvement as well, not to mention showing Silverstone once again that they're not the only ones focusing on power density.
I also see a 130mm HDB fan being mentioned. That'll be another one of those sleeve bearing enhancements meant to extend life, like the rest of the alphabet soup being tossed around these days. TNB, FDB, rifle bearing... I don't care, as long as the fan holds up in the long term. With a 10 year warranty, though, we really shouldn't have to worry about it.
Are you like me? Are you also finding it hilarious that "whisper silent" is printed in all caps? But really, this feature looks about the same as it did in the last generation. Fanless to a point, then the fan comes on. Nothing new to us.
I see by the specifications that we are good to full power at fifty degrees again. Good. This is supposed to be the best of the Gold line, so I expected this number.
It's time for some unboxing. Glad to see lots of nice foam to protect the unit inside once again.
We have a power supply in a blanket, some modular cables, a cable bag, a power cord, some screws, a self test adapter, a user guide, and some cable ties. Most excellent - the only Berg connector is off on its own adapter.
The manual is as good as the previous generation. Adequate to get away without point deductions, but there could always be more info.
