Page 1 - Marketing

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for reviews of movies starring famous Irishmen, I cannot help you. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I've acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for power supplies like this. If this Xigmatek behaves itself now, that'll be the end of it. I will not score it badly, I will not back over it with a steamroller. But if it doesn't behave, I'll torture it. And I will kill it.

And then I'll make several unnecessary sequels. Let's review the Xigmatek Maverick S Power Force 500W power supply.

Like most other power supplies, the Maverick S Power Force has a bunch of marketing bullet points on the box. Here they are now in multiple languages. Really hard to read, too, and this is after post processing Mr. Nikon's RAW file enough to actually see something.

Most of the marketing is the usual expected stuff. 80 Plus Bronze, protection circuits, active PFC. I am a bit surprised to see the fifty degree maximum operating temp rating, as that usually comes with units not aimed at the budget crowd, but I am happy to see it nonetheless.

Also found on the box is a list of cabling for all three models in the series. We're looking at the middle unit in a line of 400W, 500W, and 600W units.

And with another spin of the box, the marketing continues. As we can see here, Xigmatek is aiming for the shallow depth market, something like Silverstone has been doing lately in units like the ST85F-GS.

But how shallow is this unit, exactly? We shall see. Right now.

Wow - that's quite the shallow power supply there. Which isn't that surprising, given the size of the box. I also found a user guide, power cord, some modular cables, and a bag with some zip ties and screws. There's also a single velcro cable tie around the modular cables.

This is the user guide, which is better than nothing but a far cry from the best when it comes to documentation. I foresee some scoring action later.
