Happy Halloween, everybody! As you go out there tonight, watch out for all the ghosts, ghouls, goblins, ghasts, gremlins, and governors that are likely to be roaming around the neighborhood tonight. Those last ones always give me the willies. From what I've seen on TV; they're almost all like, "my opponent says he knows what's best for the people, but in reality eats babies and drinks the blood of the innocent." How could you not be terrified of them?
Unless, of course, you're not reading this on Halloween. In that case, happy November whatsits. Today I'm reviewing Silverstone's new fully modular Strider Gold 650 watt unit. Ah, look... some marketing, right on the front of the box. Let's go in for a closer look, even though you can probably already read these in the above picture.
What I like best about these bullet points is the depth. 140mm is awfully shallow for something that's fully modular. I wonder how the performance will be with space compromised like this. Silverstone seems to think this unit will do well, judging from the other bullet points, so I guess we'll have to see.
There's more marketing on the back of yonder box. Let's take a look.
First, we have the usual fluff about single rail power supplies and efficiency.
Next, we get a diagram of the fully modular design and a graphic that bears a resemblance to an oscilloscope, but with all numerical relevance removed. For all we know, we could be looking at hundreds of millivolts per division, there. I think I'll trust what my own scope has to say about it.
Silverstone may well be correct about this unit setting new standards for shallowness. I certainly can't think of another fully modular unit this shallow.
Elsewhere on the box, we find a list of connectors for both this and the 550 watt model in the line.
I'm so glad this unit has effiency, whatever that is. It must be something really special, because it's mentioned all over the box.
Once again, this unit is telling us it has effiency. That may be well and good, but what color is it? Come on, dangit, we consumers need to know these things! Oh, right, Silverstone's told us on the box.
