Today I have what is the largest power supply I have had the pleasure of testing: The Enermax Galaxy 1000W.
I had first seen the Galaxy 1000W at Computex three months ago. There was one power supply powering four SLI machines. Pretty impressive. But how much power was each machine really using?
With Enermax boasting 80% plus efficiency and 86% typical efficiency at 50�C and 1kW of power out of a box cooled with a 135MM fan and an 80MM fan instead of a pair of 80's had a lot of people skeptical.
Below you can see we have two boxes inside the one big box.
Below is a shot of what you'll find in the bigger of the two boxes. The power supply itself! At 220MM, it's rather long. But considering that all of the components are on a single PCB, that is to be expected.
Now let's talk about what connectors we get with the Galaxy. Because the Galaxy has a number of fixed cables as well as a number of modular interfaces, this can get rather tricky. So try to follow along...

The Enermax Galaxy is a hybrid of both a power supply with fixed connector cables and a system of modular cables. Most any high end system is going to use every cable on the fixed cable harness. The modular connectors are for those individual systems that might have a bit more here and there than the average user.
Fixed to the housing is the main ATX cable, an 8-pin EPS+12V, two four pins that combined make a second 8-pin EPS+12V and can be split into one ATX12V 4-pin or combined for a second EPS+12V connector, two PCI-e connectors, three 4-pin peripheral Molexes on one cables and three SATA connectors on another cable.
The modular cables included with the unit is another pair of PCI-e connectors (ideal for OEM Quad-SLI which uses two power connectors per card,) an extra 4-pin +12V connector, another cable with 3 SATA connectors, another cable with 3 peripheral Molex connectors, a cable with two peripheral Molexes and one floppy, a long cable with two Molexes and two SATA, a very long cable with two Molexes, two SATA and a floppy connector.
All of these modular cables are delivered in their own box. Enermax also includes a multilingual manual in this box, a very thick gage power cord and a Velcro closure pouch to store unused cables.
Now let's take a look at the rails and how they're broken down. There are FIVE 12V rails on this power supply. Two of these rails are actually on their own transformer and are completely separate from the other three...

12V1 and 12V2 are specifically for CPU1 and CPU2, either via the 4-pin of the 8-pin connectors. These two rails are on their own transformer capable of 34A. 12V3 provides power to the main ATX connector (20/24-pin), one of the PCI-e connectors and the fixed SATA connectors. 12V4 provides power to the other PCI-e connector and the fixed Molex connectors.
12V5 supplies 12V to all of the modular connectors. Something I had read in the past about this power supply had me thinking that the two "red" power connectors to the left of the interface panel were on a different rail than the other four. And if you take a look at the photos below, you'll see there's a "12V(A)" and "12V(B)" spot on the PCB. But there's only one 12V lead going to the modular interface PCB, so clearly anything on a modular cable is going to be on 12V5.
