EVGA Supernova P2 1600W - An Update

In December of 2014, we had a good long look at EVGA's brand new P2 1600 watt unit. While very impressive, the two units I originally received were discovered to be haunted by a persistent ripple interference bug which had a slight negative impact on the score. In discussions with the OEM, it was determined that I had received a couple of early units that never went out into the retail chain, and I was offered the chance to see how the actual retail unit does, as well as a future revision Super Flower was working on for EVGA.

Because we have a strict two unit per review policy, I was not able to take up that offer for the actual review. It's done and in the can. However, I was more than willing to test the actual retail unit and its upcoming revision and post a brief update on their performance. The day has come. There will be no scoring and no disassembly, as this is not a review, but there will be data and lots of it. Let's see what happens, shall we?

EVGA Supernova T2 1600W
Not so long ago, we saw our very first 80 Plus Titanium unit. A massive hulking brute of a power supply, it came to the lab an conquered all. But now, we have a challenger to the throne at last. EVGA comes to us with a unit that offers even more power at the same amazing level of efficiency. We're going to find out right now if the T2 1600 watt unit has the stuff that dreams are made of.

Rosewill Hive 1000W

Everything's coming up Rosewill here at the site again. Today, we're going to take some time to get to know the Hive 1000 watt unit, an 80 Plus Bronze model that comes with a single 83A 12V rail and is targeted at the budget crowd. With a rather low price for a unit this size, I'm wondering just how good it can be.

Xigmatek Maverick S 500W
It's been a little while since Xigmatek sent a unit my way, but today they've provided their new Maverick S 500W unit for testing. This little guy - and I do mean little - is an 80 Plus Bronze certified unit that packs 500 watts of 50 degree heat tolerance in a housing only 125mm deep. Let's see how this unit does.

EVGA Supernova P2 1600W
EVGA has been on quite a roll this year. Time after time after time, I keep getting them coming through the lab and impressing the devil out of me. Today, we're looking at the P2 1600W monster of a unit. 80 Plus Platinum. One thousand, six hundred watts. It's time to heat up the lab again.

Thermaltake Toughpower Grand AH3 850W
It's been five long years since the first time I clapped eyes on Thermaltake's first Toughpower Grand unit. Intended to be a stout, well performing unit with a long warranty that just plain worked, it marked a new era for Thermaltake as they competed with the best then on the market. But times have changed and the competition is stronger than ever. I want to see if Thermaltake's still up to the job, and see how grand these units really are.

Silverstone Strider Gold S 1500W
It seems an age since the last time we looked at a Silverstone watt monster unit. By my reckoning, it's been a good five years. In that time, we've seen more and more units come down the pipe at 1500 and 1600 watts, not the least of which is the amazing Corsair AX1500i. But today, Silverstone is finally freshening things up. Meet the brand new Strider Gold S 1500 watt beast.

Thermaltake TPD-0850M 850W
Thermaltake comes back to the site from a long hiatus today with their new Toughpower Gold unit, the TPD-0850M. This is an 850 watt unit featuring semi-modularity, ribbon cabling, and a single 12V rail at a really attractive price point.
