Is the Ultra Products, Inc. patent on modular PSUs in trouble?
Recently, Antec filed for a motion to stay in the case of Ultra Products vs. Antec, et al pending the reexamination of patent number 7,133,293. This is the patent Ultra Products holds that requires all compliant manufacturers to pay a license fee for any modular power supply sold in the United States. The judge denied the motion, but shortly after this news a reader pointed us in the direction of this Delta power supply. This power supply is a refurbished unit from an Apple Macintosh Quadra 950 dating back to 1992. The PSU is clearly modular with four modular connectors. In this picture from RetroMacCast.com, you can clearly see two of the four modular connectors being used. Could this be the smoking gun that overturns the Ultra patent? @ Patents Post-Grant
