Earlier this week I was at Argonne National Lab for a users meeting and to requisition beam time. Argonne is a synchrotron facility and is very popular for those working with X-Rays (crystallography, bio-systems etc). I got to check out the facility, listen to a few interesting speakers at the colloquium and there was free food!
During coffee breaks, we went around to check out the vendor area. To my immense surprise, there were a TON of vendors selling Programmable DC loads! I was amazed to see units that when stacked can offer a 120 kW load! Check out TDI-Inc, NHR, AMREL. These humongous loads were used in Fuel cell testing at Argonne. Many of these companies were here since the 1950's. It just goes to show that there is so much out there in the world of power electronics that we don't know about.
