In the past, I've been told that splitting the +12V rails provide "cleaner and more stable voltages".
Unfortunately, this is typically un-true. The splitting of the rails typically consists of just the circuitry to actually split and limit the current delivered without any additional filtering process. Although it is possible for manufacturers to filter each +12V output individually after it is split, the practice would be an exception, not the norm.
