Power Supply FAQs
  • The different connectors of a computer power supply:

    • The 20+4, or 24-pin, main power connector.

    • The 24-pin power connector is the main connector providing power to the motherboard. All of the motherboard's logic, memory, peripheral slots, USB, etc. get their power from the 24-pin connector.

Older motherboards may have a 20-pin main power connector. Because of this, some power supplies with 24-pin power connectors feature a detachable set of 4-pins that will allow the connector to fit into these older boards.

This 20+4-pin main power connector can be used on either 20-pin or 24-pin motherboards.
