~750watt fully modular, quiet psu

Anyone know of anything that exists that's fairly cheap?



I have the thermaltake toughpower 750watt psu, http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...p=Story&reid=7

It's fine, except it's loud. I've had it since like 2006, and it's been fine.

It's powering: A 2600k @ 4.6 ghz at 1.48 volts
gtx 670 @ forced turbo clocks (so it's at 1200 mhz at all times)
16 gigs of ram
2 hds, 2 ssds


It's loud when idling. Probably because my gpu is is at forced turbo clocks.

The tx 750m for corsair looked nice because on jonnyguru's review he said it was near silent, but it got extremely hot... that's good to me.

However, it's barely modular, which is a big turnoff.

So, any ideas? (Oh and the psu shouldn't be too big, I am in a microatx case, but the thermaltake does fit fine)

That's a <300W system at full load, why do you need a 750W PSU? (also, where will you be buying from?)

Amazon, and I doubt it uses less than 300 watts, my cpu is heavily oc'd as is my gpu. Probably around 450watts at full load.

I plan to add another gtx 670 one day.


But my thermaltake psu doesn't seem to handle it nicely. E.g, when I load my cpu to 100%, the fan in it kicks in quite dramatically. (Dramatically as in, for a silent system, it wouldn't be noticeable to most people)

(It's not the cpu fan, because I have a corsair sp120 on it, and it's not pwm)

Mainly because it's fatal1ty, and it seems pretty modular, and there's a nice MIR.

The only problem is, I don't know how loud it is.

I kind of want my pc dead silent-ish.

I put my hand to stop all the fans on the pc, and it didn't make a difference. It's the psu.

Well, doubt is free and user friendly... but you're still wrong, you might see 300W loads under synthetics, but under normal load conditions (gaming, image processing, w/e) you will not touch 300W DC.

That's not a particularly good PSU.


May I suggest newegg for a purchase? (there are excellent deals to be had there at the moment).
In which case my suggestions would be the following:
Kingwin LZP 550W @ 112$ after promo code (you'll never see or hear the fan spinning with your current setup, or even if you add a second 670)
Seasonic X 650 @ 90$, not as silent as the LZP but an excellent unit also at an equally excellent price.

Any reccomednations ideas then? My main problem with that psu is that the cables are short. I know I am using a microatx case, but I route all the cables through the back and I have 6 devices that require sata power.

(1 dvd,1 bluray, 2 hds, and two ssds, I plan to add two more hard drives)


I mean I could probably open my psu and solder in another 140mm fan, but I don't know if it would push enough air if I got a 2nd 670.

This psu I have already seems to have heating issues according to jonnyguru's review.

Hmm, I noticed the reviews for all the power supplies complain about coil whine.

None of the reviews complain about coil whine on my thermaltake, which makes sense because mine doesn't. Maybe my best option is just to change the fan.

As you wish, changing the fan is always an option... though, considering that's a 2006 PSU, you should probably retire it.

How about the new Seasonic G series 550w that's just been reviewed? It may be only semi modular, but there are only 2 fixed cables...
