I just bought a 10-pack of pre-made Molex-to-2-SATA cables on ebay, took them apart, and made some multi-SATA supply cables that fit my case exactly.

It was cheaper than buying the SATA connectors separately from the electronic parts sources I looked at.

Simply some wires terminated to the power supply and some IDC connectors would be wonderful. (And a big red warning label "If you put the connectors on backward, you will destroy your hard drive(s).")

I think the spacing in different cases is too variable to manufacture for. Not to mention needing a bit more slack to reach different-size drives like 2.5" and optical disc drives.

If you're a PSU company who also sells cases, you should try to make the drive spacing on your cases standard as well as your modular cables.
Then sell a cable for your cases so that your HDD slots in a case can all run off a chain or two.

Silverstone partially does this. RV02, FT02, & RV03 (I think TJ11 as well) use the same spacing and they offer a cable that's just 1 SATA connection to 5. So you can connect all your drives with minimal cable work.

They also offer a short-cable kit which is nice as well.

You mean the CP06? I have it and an FT02 and I'm pretty disappointed. It only connects to 4 drives, doesn't fit exactly (requires really big bends on the cables) and is physically too fat to sit behind the mobo tray without pushing out the side panel and flattening the sound deadening foam. Because of this, I only use 4 drives and have the CP06 sitting in the first hdd bay.

On another note I'm really excited to see smaller versions of there bigger brother. Hopefully the performance scales down with them. And, we don't get short shafted on PCI-e Connectors.

Yeah that's what I meant. As People tend to use the old cables and don't care about any writing anywhere, they will use the wrong cables. And yes, that much is certain.

You can't imagine how many people used the P7 cables with a Dark Power Pro P8/P9 although there was a big red piece of paper with white letters wich say that they have to use the new cables - they didn't...

When I took over as interim PSU PM last year, I made all the 2012 launch products go to a standard. For a couple of boring reasons, "Type 3" became the most obvious standard to use, so all the new products used it.

TXM uses it.
AX1200i uses it.
Future modular products will use it.

As a result, while the old AX1200 cables won't work with the new AX1200i, all the HX cables will. The one exception is the 24-pin connector (which is not modular on the HX series) so we're going to sell that separately and split out the kits a bit.

So the future products made by Seasonic will be using Type-3 pinouts?

All modular products on our roadmap the Type 3 pinout.

For those worried about plugging in the wrong cables, the connectors were keyed differently so it would be difficult to force it and cause damage.

Not impossible (one guy manually shaved down his modular connector to fit) but very difficult.

Why did AX1200i use a new 10+14pin connector? Does that mean future AX models will lack remote sense on +12V/+5V/GND pins?
