Default Enermax Maxrevo 1500W PSU Review

OklahomaWolf takes a look at the Enermax Maxrevo 1500W.

Quote:
Back in April, I took a look at a monster of a unit, a 1600 watt Lepa that came in and showed other power supplies how it's done. Built by Enermax, it was quite an impressive feat of engineering. Now, I've got the Enermax version on my load tester, the Maxrevo 1500 watt. Is this still a plaform the competition should fear? Let's waste no time in finding out.

Fine scope shots. You'll have to start adding a zoomed scope shot for some of these units now more and more are putting out such flat shots. Curious whether the PSU end of those split cables experienced any warming during the high power tests?

This guy is one of the few in Enermax's line up that isn't over priced and actually has some competitive price cuts on Newegg.

A very solid unit, I just wish Enermax would move away from that awful gold styling they do.

On the Tektronix, that involves a surprising amount of software reconfiguration on the PC side of things. There's no quick way to do it. Part of the problem is, the software doesn't officially support 64 bit OS's and I've had to do some working around that.

I'd still pass on it and pick Lepa branded variant - just too good of a deal to pass up.

It really depends on the week in the U.S.

This guy will have a $50 MIR from time to time & free shipping while it's an extra $15 shipping on the Lepa variant.

The voltage regulation of new Maxrevo 1500w and lepa-G 1600w are pretty decent.

To me, it looks like the design in Maxrevo 1350w has been optimized.

I'm still confused about the whole Enermax/Lepa thing. Is Lepa fall out product from Enermax? Don't the two product lines cannibalize each other? Enermax built up such a strong brand; why branch out a whole other brand when you could just add a new product line?

It made less sense with Modu87+ units & the original Lepa G Series units.
As they had the same components in full.

This time around, the Lepa G1600 uses a less expensive fan (which some would consider a lower quality component based on it's sound profile) as well as not having the built in in-line filter. Like wise, the Lepa unit is only rated at 40*C. Like wise, Lepa doesn't have all of the extra Enermax marketing behind it (nor the cord guard thing, but I don't really consider it a pro or a con either way.)

Like wise, Lepa is branching out now and selling High Power & Channel Well Tech based used more than Enermax ones.

That's most likely the plan at this point.

I do agree with you, to us Enthusiasts' who understand they're apart of the same company it's a bit confusing as they're both operating in all sections of the market.

When I recommend Lepa to enthusiasts who are not familiar with the market and just want a well performing high wattage unit at a decent price; they always ask "who" as even most enthusiasts do not understand the relationship between Enermax & Lepa. So those who are loyal to Enermax will most likely stick with them. I've already seen zealots for Enermax though, saying that Lepa is ruining the brand with their sub-par units.

Those folks are also a bit crazy though, and think Corsair makes cheap power supplies and that European brands like BeQuiet don't know what they're doing.

The High Power and CWT stuff makes sense. You want to differentiate, there's the differentiators: the CM. But on the higher wattage, leaving stuff off like cable retainers, cheaper fan and having the PSU's output performance measured at 40C vs. 50C just I think is too small to risk damaging or cannibalizing your existing market.
