So I'm thinking of upgrading my PC a little, but I'm not sure what card to get or if the money I'm willing to spend on it is even worth spending. Any advice would be appreciated
![]() I was thinking about getting something like the ASUS ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5 (what a crazy name!) or maybe a Radeon HD 6950? I have no idea what to buy, but it shouldn't cost more than the ASUS card, and unless an AMD card is a lot faster I'd rather stick with Nvidia, as I've had way too many problems with the AMD drivers (especially in linux). All of my current hardware specs: CPU: Intel Core I5-2500k RAM: 2 x 2 GB Corsair XMS3 - PC3-12800 GPU: Gainward GTX 460GB Golden Sample - Goes Like Hell <-- PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750HXEU Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH P67 Sandy Bridge B3 Misc: Noctua NH-D14, OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, NZXT Panzerbox*, Microsoft Sidewinder X6, Logitech G9x * Notice the Panzerbox. The card cannot be a huge card. The current one can only just fit in there. |

Definitely don't go for GTX560, because it's essentially an overclocked GTX460. I wouldn't go for HD6950 neither, since performance difference isn't really that vast to be worth the hassle.
Personally - I'd wait for the next gen GPUs.

I second that, the 560 is not much of an upgrade.

Yeah, it's not worth it to get a new high-end GPU every generation, unless you're made of money.
Myself: X300 -> 7300GT -> 9500GT -> HD4870 -> Crossfire HD4870s -> HD6950 You can also see my evolution from casual gamer to more hardcore gamer.

How about adding a second card? Would that be worth it? I have never tried SLI.

Is it 768MB or 1GB card that you have? If it's 1GB, then SLIing might be worth it. You can get used 460 for $100 or so, or a new one for ~$140.

It is a 1gb factory overclocked card:
www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=395 Might be hard to find another one used. Would it be worth it? I have no idea how widespread and supported SLI is. How big a performance gain would I be looking at getting? |

You don't have to find the exact same card, any other GTX460 1GB (not SE) will do. In most games you should see about 60-70% more FPS, though you have to remember about microstuttering.
Also, some games don't support SLI (those will run the same on one and two cards).

I really don't like what I've read about microstuttering. I think I'll pass and wait for a new generation.
