HCP 850 clicking on cold boot

Hi there

I have this issue where when my pc is cold and I start the pc, the psu clicks several times the starts. I have the dreaded Sabertooth P67 with the standby issue and have been through multiple warranty returns and am not sure if this is the motherboard or the psu. What do guys think? So pissed ay, cost me a arm and leg and am still having to sort out the issues.

Here's your fix(If I'm getting this right, and it's a cold boot issue):
BIOS -> go to ‘Advanced’ tab -> go down to ‘APM’, press Enter -> enable the “Power on by PCIe.” function -> save & exit

Thanks, I will give it a go. Isn't that to do with wake on lan?. What mean by cold boot is when the pc has been off for a long period of time ie overnight and it is cold and it is then started up.

Nope, still clicking. Its just every time its cold, it clicks as soon as I hit the start button, I can see the case lights going on and off, then it turns itself off and starts normally. Could this be the mainboard firmware?

I have seen this happen when the memory OC fails, the MB resets to a default setting and reboots.

ASUS boards have known to double-boot if you use some customized profiles in BIOS.

Does it happens if you 'Load default settings'?

Are you sure that's not the hard drives clicking?

If this clicking is RIGHT when you restart the computer, instead of cold booting (the best way is to just restart it through windows, then when the screen goes black to restart, you should hear it), then its some circuitry. I can guarantee you that it is NOT the power supply. I have the exact same sound on my Gigabyte P67 board with two different power supplies. It's just what the board does when you reboot.

It's NOT your PSU causing the problem. Nothing to worry about, if it's the clicking sound I think it is. No magic smoke for you today, Harry Potter. It's the motherboard. Probably some power switch state...

Many motherboards with onboard buzzer ("pc speaker") click on start/restart, as the speaker receives current on startup. Actually, a number of boards that don't have it do it too - I have an old Abit NF7 that actually pushes the boot-up beep codes through the line out, not just the pc speaker, and the speakers "bump" every time the board boots. The pc speaker clicks annoyingly because it's frequency response is horrible, that's all.

No, it was definitely the PSU relay. I disabled EPU Power Saving Mode and so far so good. Still got the standby issue though even with the new BIOS.

I was able to enable the EPU again because apparently the EPU changes the RAM frequency and my board detected the RAM as 1333, when is actually 1600 so I manually set the value to 1600. However when manually set the EPU couldn't adjust the frequency, so I put it on auto and the EPU enabled and there is no more clicking and hibernate works now too, but still no standby.
