Never thought i'd disagree with a JG review but......

The unit has average voltage regulation and MISSES PLATINUM EFFICIENCY AT 2/3 OF 80+ MARKER POINTS...with a high pricetag........ yet still gets recommended???

Recommendation is result of weighted average of all criteria being >=9.0, IIRC.

And this unit meets this criterion, thanks to build quality and functionality. Yet, I wouldn't personally recommend it, in favour of MaxRevo.

Yeah. The total score was 8.9, which was close enough to 9 to get the nod. Although I'm second guessing myself on the performance and value scores.

voltage regulation is crap -> well, it's within spec
obvious platinum failure -> well, it almost did it (and is considered as "The Good")

way too much positive thinking, unusual for this site

It's factual. Voltage regulation is within spec. It's crap by my standards, but my standards are higher than mere specification.

And it did miss 80 Plus Platinum, but only at 100% load.

And the whole reason the unit was dinged so hard in the performance category is because of the poor voltage regulation and missing 80 Plus Platinum at 100% load. A full point for each.

I compared the voltage regulation results of four sites: JG, [H], Chiphell and PCPOP. JG and PCPOP got similar numbers which are worse than [H]'s, and Chiphell's numbers are much better than others. I suspect Platimax has some problem with the voltage remote sense on +12V output, although it has 12V1S pin on its 20+16 pin connector. If you look carefully, the Platimax did use a newer revision of PCB than MaxRevo, which had some change on secondary layout.

FYI, I've contacted PCPOP's reviewer and here's his load-to-connector configuration:
12VA: CPU 8pin
12VB: ATX 24pin plus a 4pin PATA cable
12VC: PCI-E 6(+2)pin
Obviously he used too few cables for the test. I'm surprised he almost got 95% peak efficiency with these cables.

Chiphell (Chinese):

he used only one PCIe/EPS connector in a 1200W PSU!! (PCPOP)

Also 95% efficiency is too good to be true especially for such few cables where energy dissipation would be huge. Either his power meter is totally uncalibrated or his load tester.

Just as an FYI, Enermax does not really agree with the results any of the reviews are posting about the unit (or probably the MaxRevo but didn't ask about that). I am not sure how they test their units exactly, but they seem to get a total peak change on the 12v rails of 0.29v.

Maybe they can send me a sample and I'll check it

Paul your results are very close to their "official numbers" except the overburdened ATX12V connector. They've changed part of the design from MaxRevo to fix the regulation issue, so Platimax "should" perform better.
