Very cool review, awesome unit!

Wish I could grab an SF unit here. They've been selling these for quite some time in China.

I remember suggesting one to someone at eVGA. They just need to expand their availability.

You realize one day the MOV will die of old age and make the PSU not work until you remove it and change the fuse, right?

It belongs in a surge suppressor with its own fuse and an indicator lamp. I'll never understand people bemoaning the loss of useless sacrificial components.

How will this day stand in relation to death of fan? Or capacitors? Or whatever else?

Depends on the design and the quality of the parts involved. It's not the most common failure, but they show up on BadCaps now and again.

Bottom line is it's one more thing to break, and given the role of the component, it belongs in a place where it can be swapped out by the end user.

then they should sell PSUs along with surge protectors. Or at least write on the packaging that this product should be used along with a surge protector for protection against spikes.

In some countries may the grid be stable but at least here in Greece we usually encounter spikes coming from the grid. I prefer to change a $2 component like the MOV than to replace the whole PSU along with the burnt components.

Like the one sitting next to me that I've had for 15 years? Or the other one upstairs I've had for longer?

I don't keep PSUs for that long. Don't know anyone who does. Capacitor longevity is a bigger concern for me than the MOV.

It depends on how you look at it IMO. As cmaris said, if you live in a country with a dirty power grid, and don't have an UPS/surpressor, it may be a problem. While varistors don't die like fans and such, the longevity of the caps isn't usually more important than the MOV, at least not at this time and date. They work for years anyway. But pushing the PSU affects the performance of the unit as you all know.
