Default PSU for new build i7_2600K, 5850, etc..

Hi all,

I have rebuilt my computer with specs:

i7 2600K oced to 4.5-5.2GHz
Gigabyte P67A-UD5
2x2GB XMS3 Corsair DDR3
MSI Radeon 5850 1GB oced to 1000/1200
Noctua NH-D14
SSD 80GB, WD 2GB Green, DVD-RW unit
3 additional 120mm fans Noctua

At a moment I am running this system with Enermax Liberty 500W v.2. At load (in Crysis) I heard some loud buzzing few times which clearly indicates my 4 years old Enermax is seriously under stress. I guess this is correct? How much wattage is my system pulling?

I want to avoid any damage to my system, I guess purchase of new PSU is only solution?!

Which PSU would be best thing to get? I am thinking of 750-850 Watts so it would be future proof (maybe new card like 570GTX or 580GTX, crossfire with 5850).

I am considering Corsair AX series. Any better solutions?

Thanx.

The buzzing can just be coil whine which doesn't necessarily indicate a load level. Though it can get more intense with a larger load.

Still, at 4 years old it'd be good to look at replacing the unit.

You could do Crossfire on that system with a 650w unit. A Thermaltake Toughpower Grand, Seasonic X-650, or NZXT Hale90 650w would all be excellent choices for the job.
Antec True Power New 650w, XFX XPS650, & Corsair HX650 would also be great options. Just less efficient than the Seasonic/Thermaltake/NZXT listed.

What about Seasonic X560 and single 5850? Enough power I guess?

Very similar and less than 250 watts at load with OC.

The 560 watt is fine for one card.

However, with the OC on the VID card, you can also get coil buzzing from the card itself. Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is coming from the PSU, or the Card when you are playing a game.

Just FYI.

I can pull about 450W AC from my overclocked 2600K/5870 system in a worst case scenario, or at least so says my Kill-a-watt. A 560W unit would be fine in practice.
