Default Review: PowerColor 600w Gaming Series

Another decent review at KitGuru, this time it's another PowerColor unit, but it's from their "Gaming Series" and it's a 600w 80plus standard non-modular unit with a blinding yellow fan.

Nothing surprising there considering the Solytech design it's based on. But...

That said, we noticed a fair amount of ripple on the 5V+ and 12V+ lines … nothing to cause concern, but a little higher than we would normally measure with our equipment.
what's wrong with maxing at half ATX spec? How can you be even slightly disappointed with that for a mainstream product?

>60mv is good, even great for this platform. Definitely nothing to scoff at.

Hmm. Another pretty good performer by solytech. I still want to see one of their sl-9600eps units tested.

That's their 80+ Silver unit right?

IIRC, the 80+ tests showed some really stable voltage with that unit.

I have the 80plus sample of it running my computer. It's different than any other of the solytech's I have seen so far. It's definitely a 80plus sample as it doesn't have many connectors and the ones that are there use all 16ga wires and are pretty short. Though the soldering is pristine on it, very close to delta soldering.

What's the cabling like on that unit?

It looks pretty organized in there; who are the caps made by?

Sleeving on the cables is very nice, it's thick enough so that you can't see the wires underneath, but still very flexible.

The primaries are YC, secondaries are all teapo 4x 4700uf, 16v caps for the 12v rails. It has two 12v rails off the transformer, then those are slit into two rails each. 2x 3300uf, 10v caps for the 5v and 3.3v rail, and it of coarse has independent regulation. Those blue caps in the middle are YC.

Damn, I looked up the 80+ Report and it was great voltage regulation.

Why is no one using that unit? Upgrade the caps and I bet it could hang with the best of them.

I think solytech is still trying to tweak it to meet gold. It got close, or maybe it was just a "we can too" thing.
