Default Ultra XFinity 500 Watt- 12 volt fluctuates

Hello all. I have a X-finity 500 Watt power supply in use with my overclocked to 2600Mhz Opteron 165. Voltages are at default for everything. Using speedfan, with cool and quiet on, CPU at idle, speedfan shows the 12 volt line fluctuates. I think it's too high as well. The readings section of speedfan shows it between 12.71 to 12.8, usually stays within 12.71 to 12.77. The graph section shows a zig zag line, with spikes to 12.6 and 12.9. How accurate is speedfan?
This is at idle, 1 hard drive, 1 video card, 2 case fans, audio card. Maybe I should try a voltmeter on one of the molex connectors?

My other dual core AMD PC with a Antec 550 Truepower 2.0 shows an almost straight line at idle for 12 volt with speedfan, at about 12.59

Thanks

That's what I would do

Speedfan can't even read voltages on my board. Says 12v is at 9.24v.

I put a mulitmeter on one of the molex connectors of the Ultra, and I get a pretty steady 12.12 volts at idle, while speefan shows the ripple.

My other PC has the same motherboard in it, Antec power supply, and a multimeter on it stays pretty steady at 12.03, speedfan steady at 12.59

But having dual rails might mean that 1 rail is higher or lower in 12V than the other?

Speedfan is not capable of measuring ripple - it's just showing fluctuations from wherever it's getting those odd voltage readings from.

I wouldn't worry about the other 12v rail too much - it will be coming from the same source anyway. However, if you wish to check it, measure at the back of the 12v CPU connector on the board.

Well, it looks like the motherboard utility is more accurate, it shows 12.02V

all the Motherboard monitor apps get their information from the same chips on the MB.. these chips are know for being Way way off and are even influenced by other system activity's.
Example.. encode a Divx to DVD and check the Speed fan readings ...lol thier a joke at best.

if your not having any PSU related problems forget monitoring the voltages it a waste of time ..thats my 2c
