Hello! Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap, but good, power meter. I was thinking about this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT I initially wanted to get one with a usb/serial port in order to get readings straight to my PC and use them along with my program to monitor on the fly the efficiency. But those ones I've found are a little expensive

Looks like it should be a decent meter.

After some search I found this (it has a universal model for 220V)
https://www.wattsupmeters.com/secure/products.php It is equiped with a usb interface so I could get its readings through my program and measure the efficiency in real time. |

I have done a more detailed research and I found that the most suitable and affortable power meters PSU reviewing are the following:
1)Lutron DW-6090 350 euro 2)Extech 380801, 380803 550(650) euro 3)Hameg 8115-2 600 euro 4)GWInstek GPM-8212R 700 euro Μost likely I will buy the first. |

Finally I bought this. Its a Prova WM-01 power analyzer. Similar to Extech 380801

nice...I've got one of the Everfine PF9800's now like you linked to in your first post except I didn't pay quite that much. Some might be interested to know that it does have an RS-232 connector on the back for auxiliary I/O that wasn't documented...doesn't come with any software nor even protocol info for it but could probably get the info somewhere. The accuracy and bandwidth is very good for the price I reckon. Oh and be warned that the AC plug is Chinese style...wasn't an issue for me since the AVR/step-up transformer I'm using to power it accepts those without adapters.

These Everfines must be good meters too. Its serial port (if you manage to get data from it) could be a great plus.
As for my power meter, after two day's work I managed to communicate with it through its serial and collect data. Now I can measure the efficiency in real time with my program. |
