Default Hey Guys , need some advice.

Hey guys, been reading alot on this forum , and i must admit the best part of getting a new rig togther is the study part, its my first time assembly of a PC, and i would like to ask some basic PSU questions.

PC spec :
1 X I5 750. (OC)
2 X 1 TB HDD (F3 samy).
1 X 5850 (OC).
1 X MOBO Gigabyte of some sort..
4 X 120 mm FANS.
1 X 140 mm FAN.
1 X DVD/RW of some kind.
2 X 2GB Gskill ECO.

i will probably added another 5850 in CF down the line....
the problem is that for some unexplained reason (maybe its the name, looks, spec), i really want the X 750 of seasonic,
(i always had a Generic psu that torched my MOBO/GPU after 1.5 years of use).
would it be a major Over kill ? am i just throwing money down the drain?
should i pick the X 650 insted? (reamember im CF in the next year or so).
and 1 last point... i cant rely on ATI to provide such low voltage GPU in the future, so maybe the 750 is the way to go, if 2-3 years from now i need to replace the CF setup.
Thanks , for you help!
P.S - when ever i use the Power calculators on the web i get a very high number,
that i think its unrealistic.

One man's "overkill" is another man's "headroom", but I say get the X-750.

A high quality 550W could run your rig, but a 650-750W would be safer. If you have the money to get a SeaSonic X power supply, they are some of--if not THE--best 650W and 750W PSUs on the market.

Really, 650W is enough to power any single-GPU rig, even with overclocking, assuming you aren't watercooling or running ridiculous amounts of hard drives and fans. The 5870 only draws about ~200W at full load, and the rest of your rig shouldn't add up to more than another 200-250W.

Ah, just saw you're considering CF. In that case I'd go for the X750, just for the greater headroom. Two 5850s would *probably* be ok on the X650, but there's no sense pushing any component in your system harder than it needs to be pushed.

If the X750 costs too much after all, also consider the Corsair HX750W or the SeaSonic M12D 750W and 850W.

I agree.

Serious gamers should always buy the best PSU they can. A good one can last you a very long time through several builds, so don't get caught at some later date with your pants down, needing a better PSU.

People get all hung up on actual power draws. Your X750 will be quite efficient at 300W, so just get it and stop worrying about it.
