I have had this FSP PSU lying around for a while now not in use. Recently, I decided to put a cheap little computer together for my parents. Nothing special, here are the specs: Intel E6600 CPU w/ intel HSF Cheap Asrock mobo with integrated video 2x2gb DDR2 1 DVD burner 1 7200rpm Hard disk 1 120mm Fan I figured the FSP would be a perfect match for this low power system (the Asrock mobo is compatible with the 20pin ATX connector so no issues there), however, I checked the voltages on it by jumping the green and black wires just to make sure all was okay. The 3.3 and 5V rails are fine but the 12V rail is reading +11.61V with nothing plugged into the PSU. With an old optical drive plugged in, I get +11.7V. I am probably going to open her up to see if there are any issues. Is it ok? What could be causing the lower 12V voltage? Thanks in advance

Just not enough loading. Hook it up to the system (or a couple of old hard drives), and I bet it will be in the 11.8's or higher.
Check the 5vsb voltage, some of these old FSP's have the 2-transistor 5vsb circuit (they also like to send them into orbit sometimes)

Thanks for your reply,
OK, good to know. I probably will open her up just to look at the caps first, anything else to look for? Thanks again |

Just take a look that those caps, probalby teapo on this unit. May be good, teapo sometimes bulged when they go bad, sometimes they won't. You'll know if you're getting random restarts, bsod's, or other weirdness (if they can be fixed by using a known-good psu)
