Default Need help picking a power supply

Ok ive been reading up on power supplies some and i was considering getting the Corsair HX 1000w...I plan to finish building my gaming rig soon and ive been told that 1000 watts is overkill, here is what will be in my computer

AMD phenom II x4 3.40ghz Black Edition
MSI 790fx gd-70 motherboard or Asus M4A79T Deluxe
4gigs 1600mhz ddr3 ram
ati 4890's in crossfire
1tb 7200rpm harddrive
Coolermaster storm scout case with five 120mm fans

SO im wondering should i grab the 1k watt supply or just go for the Corsair hx850...or will the 1000w open me up for more improvements in the future?

If you aren't going nuts overclocking your CPU and GPUs then the HX750 would be plenty for you. Even 850W is overkill unless you plan to do some serious overclocking.

If you want expandability I would just go for one of the newer 850W designs. Newer, better, more efficient than the HX1000. Seasonic M12D, S12D, Corsair HX850, Antec Signature 850W.

Like HOOfan said, 1000W would be way overkill for that setup. Although personally, I'd stick with something in the 650W-750W range for a system like that. You don't need any more power than that. Right now my top recommendation would be the Antec Truepower New 750W on Newegg for $95 after rebate, since you're unlikely to find a better value for a PSU in the range of what you need. That's assuming you're located in the US, of course.
