Default System Builders

Question?

Can anyone purchace, and use a Microsoft OEM System Builder License?
Instead of building a system for someone (customer), and do it for your self?
Reason why I ask is because NewEgg has Win 7 System Bulder OS's for cheaper than regular. Why can't I purchase that if I wanted and build a new system for myslef and install OS?

Curious,

D.

As long as you also buy some computer parts on the same order newegg doesn't care.

Yes. One of the last commincations I had with Dave Hammock before he disappeared from the web was how a major brand single +12V rail PSU wasn't shutting down when shorted. We were literally arc welding with the PSU. Hopefully Dave's absense isn't due to the fact that he got over zealous with the welding.

Hey thanks guys.

So, if I buy hardware on same sales order, newegg doesn't care, but what about MS?

At least here in Norway, OEM licenses are on sale for the regular Joes just the same as retail ones. There are more restrictions on OEMs though compared to retail. Apparently you can't use the license again on a new computer, you have to buy a new license if you swap your hardware out.

Very good information here:

And here:

Summary - Legally, as of Windows 7, this violates the EULA. In practice, MS doesn't care, and their own representatives say "it's ok."
