Assuming you're using Firefox, maybe Adblock? :

You could create your own shell and then browse from within it.

I know when you surf through some free proxy sites, ad blocking is an option.... and it DOES work.

Use Flashblock with Firefox. Allows you to block all.. err .. Flash

Once set, every site you load with flash will be disabled and you have the option to view it by clicking a a play button in the middle of it No flaws or problems with it that I've heard yet and its specifically orientated for flash controlling.

Off the top of my head I don't remember, but there's a few that let you check boxes for "hide ads," "strip meta tags," "strip page title," and that kind of thing.

What about surfing from inside your own VM?
Is that what Johnny was saying?

Yeah. Essentially, an anonymous web proxy is just you going to a website that allows you to surf from their server and therefore have their IP.

If that is all you want to do, you can accomplish that through a translator site like Google or Altavista. The IP that's passed to the web server is that of the translator program's server.

But what I was talking about are anonymous web proxies that also allow you to block ads, java, flash, etc.
