Default Any drawback to oversized PSU?

I have recently made some changes to one of my rigs.

I pulled out 9 hard drives (one 74gb raptor and 8 400gb Seagate 7200.9 400gb SATA) and replaced them with a velociraptor and 4 ES.2 1TB Seagates

replaced my 2 HD2900's with a single HD4870

Changed my mb and CPU from an Intel D975XBX2 and Intel D960 w/ Asus Rampage Formula w/ E8500

Took out 4 120mm fans.

Power supply is Antec TPQ-1000.

Power consumption through Kill-A-Watt is now never exceeds 500 watts including my monitor.

Is there any reason to reduce the size of my power supply? I have a VX550 here on the shelf as well as a TPQ-850.

It was either this or replace the air conditioner which couldn't keep up. The machine runs 24/7, but the drives spin down. The heat output has dropped significantly

the 550 could power all that easily and seems a shame for it to be sitting on a shelf.

No reason not to use the 1000W no. It may be more efficient at your power draw than the other two anyway.

Well, perhaps the TPQ 850w would be the best solution ? That TPQ 1000w should still have a nice resale value on the used products market.

it's question of the efficiency.
you have to look whether the vx550 (which imo can run it no problem) at this load how efficient is, and also check the kW unit too.
