Default My Infiniti died

Well guys, recently you all were talking about the failure rate of the Enermax supplies. It hasn't even been a year and the supply has died on me so it seems.

I have unplugged it from everything and used my LCD power supply tester hand tool to trigger it on, and all I get is the same beep beep faster, over and over.

It did it suddenly while I was watching an old 1960's download: Danger Man. I have always unplugged it during storms and have it on a surge protector, but it still died, sigh...

I need your help jonny.

Why do all of them seem to poop around the year mark, when the warranty ends?

Warranty is for 3 years. If it goes quietly, it could be an MOV failure.

Yes, it went quietly. Now every storm here I always unplug it, as a rule, so I certainly didn't abuse it in any way that I can think of. Are there different grade MOVs?

I think I got this one from Jonny back last, was it April or May?

With MOV's like anything else that is susceptible to dielectric fatigue, the lifetime rapidly decreases if it get hit with one surge too many.Note however, I'm merely speculating about the possibility of an MOV failure .

Ah. Well who knows what caused it, it did go quietly, my computer just suddenly shut down and the there were the beep beeps.

I have just finally gotten my system stable (Latency settings and change to Vista) and then this happens.

Like I say, I don't know about everyone else here, but we unplug stuff during a storm, just to be safe.

You can call me blitheringly insane, but I never unplug anything during a storm.

Of course, I run things through filtering powerstrips, UPS's for the important equipment on top of the surge protectors, and all my surge protectors usually have Ground Fault indicators (More likely to blow things up then a storm, if you have no working ground line..) as well as a self-health indicator that dims, flickers, or goes out when the internal circuitry in the strip is too damaged to take a surge... Or when the caps have aged too much.

The last piece of equipment I lost to a storm was a commodore 64 PSU, which exploded in sparks and melty bits and ate a hole in the rug during a storm. It was what prompted me to start using good power strips.

The phone lines are the most dangerous things during a storm....if you have an old modem hooked up, it is a good idea to run it through a quality surge protector or just unplug it. Thos Commodore 64 powerblocks got hot....we had to set ours on an upside down pie tin, to keep it from melting the floor

I would say this is ironic but I know first hand how frustrating it can be when a PSU goes on you.
