I am a gamer, but with my current setup i cannot do much other that CS1.6 at 40fps and source crashes my computer. I am looking to build a computer that i can possibly expand to other games, and play those that i have. I don't LAN so the weight of the computer, i know its gonna be heavy, is not much of an issue. I currently have a 500GB 7200rpm Western Digital External drive that i am going to keep that is why there is no second (slave) hard drive and I already have a mouse. I am not sure about the power supply, I don't know if it will be enough power. This is my first build so any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

A couple things....

First, when you copy and paste your posts from one forum to antoher, it messes up your URL's. All of your links are bad. If you're going to post the same thing on multiple forums, click on "EDIT", then copy, then go to the other forum and paste.

The other thing: Shop some of those parts. Newegg's loss leaders are CPU's and hard drives, but they easily make up for this with other parts. Like that PSU is about $10 to $20 higher than other places and the case is a whopping $40 more than other places. Provantage is good for cases and power supplies and look for "free shipping" deals at Buy.com.

With the possible exception of Crysis, you probably could get the 8800GTS 512MB, G92 based card and get comparable performance for at least $150 less than that GTX.

Are you planning to run an SLI setup in the future? If not, you can probably save a decent amount of money with a P35 or 680i based board instead of the 780i you listed.

The PSU will definitely power that rig without breaking a sweat.

sorry about the links. they are fixed. Just trying to get multiple opinions didnt realize it messed up the urls. Yah i dont plan on buying all my parts from newegg i do intend to shop around. i posted the links as reference to those who may no be familiar with the particular model specs. and i will look at provantage thanks. Do you have any comments or suggestions about the components? yes i want to keep the option open to go SLI if i see the need later.

Then I would recommend the MSI P7N SLI Platinum. The 650i has had fewer problems than the 680i, so I assume the same will be true for the 700-series chipsets, as they're pretty similar. There is practically no performance difference between putting your graphics card in a 8x slot and in a 16x slot, even less so now that PCI-E 2.0 is on the scene with twice the bandwidth. See this Tech Spot analysis.

IMHO, the Raptors are overrated also. I'd get a 1TB drive instead; almost as fast seek times, faster sequential times, and a heck of a lot more space.

i looked at the EVGA 512-P3-N841-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP With SLI Support. now is there a big difference between 256-bit and 384-bit? i couldnt find anywhere where i could understand the difference between 256-bit and 384-bit. can someone explain. now i know that the GTX listed is only pci express x16 not the 2.0 which means half the transfer speed but is that noticable either? my mobo has 2 2.0 slots but only 1 1.0 slot so i would think it would be easier to SLI with the gts but i just want to understand the memory interface difference. sorry really confused hope that made some sense .

It's just memory bandwidth. It's not like a processor where "32-bit" and "64-bit" refer to internal operations. This is more like single-channel (64-bit) vs. dual-channel (128-bit) memory. 384-bit has an obvious 50% bandwidth advantage, all else being
equal. Think of them as quad- and hex-channel main memory. Of course, 50% faster memory will get you the same benefit.

The cost is that there are a bunch more wires from the memory to the GPU chip proper, which requires a couple of more layers in the PC board to make them fit, which drives up production cost.

so i think i understand that now. the transfer speed is twice as fast on the 8800gts (g92) but the memory is about 1.5X as fast on the gtx so they are pretty close to being equal with the exception that the gtx has more memory. Im learning lol. so looks like the gts (g92) is a better buy for now and it will be cheaper if i go SLI. Thanks for the help. feel free to continue to comment on my build

Guys, I might be wrong, but IIRC, many 680i, and probably 650i boards won't support the new Intel processors, correct me if I am wrong. The board he is looking at IS a nice one if what others are saying about it means anything from my reading. But yeah, if he doesn't need SLI or the particular slots that board has, or whatever other features, a P35 is a good way to go, just make sure you won't need a BIOS update to run that processor on the board you chose, all the manu to find out.

About the case: I thought I read somebody saying that case is a "dust magnet", but maybe it was a different case? It is one of the more beautiful cases, but I like my stacker much more than that one. But then again, the CM Stacker STC T01 UWK suites me the way it is made. Cases are as personal as GFs, what's good for Fred will suxor for Bill...

GTX superclocked is a waste of money.
Try a X38 board and a Crossfire of HD3870, or better a HD3870 X2.
