What's a good psu with a couple of these connectors?
Looking in the 750-900 watt range. Or would one of those adapters work on a 6pin pci-e?

What do you need the 8 pin for?
Most top quality 700W and larger PSUs have at least 1 8 pin PCI-e. I only know of 1 card that uses the 8 pin and thats just to enable extra features on the card. Those features can be unlocked with a simple paper clip mod. But here is a great qualtiy 750W unit with the connectors you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

I was planning on getting a hd3870x2, which requires a 8pin pci-e and a 6 pin..
My Silverstone's(zeus 750 and 850) do not have the 8 pin . Total bummer. But at the time who'd thought I'd need one??Would one of these adapters do the trick? http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=21721 http://www.frozencpu.com/products/60...ter_Cable.html

I plan on oc'ing.. That's why I'm concerned about the power input to the card. If I have to buy a psu also,, I'll put my 450bux to other uses..

Wow. About half the price. Maybe we should raise it!

So judging Jonny's positive reply, these will work as good as the separate 8 pin's?

Technically the 8-pin connector CAN NOT deliver more power, nor should it have to since the card is consuming a good deal less than the capability of the wires and connector.
8-pin generally has an extra pin on the +12V row to "sense" +12V voltage. If voltage drops due to the resistance caused by too much current, the PSU should be able to compensate and/or the graphics card can "clock down" to lighten the load. But I can't think of any 8-pin PCIe connectors that actually USE the +12V sense. Everyone just taps a ground to the +12V sense pin which "fools" the graphics card into thinking that there's a +12V sense wire there. The adapter will add resistance, but no more than if you had a modular power supply to begin with. So I wouldn't sweat it.

Everyone missed an important point.... he wants to run two HD3870. Those cards need only a single 6-pin PCIe plug each. The 8-pin PCIe was for the HD29xx series.
