The X1950GT is the better card in game performance. Guess an 8800 is out of your range. Both of those cards are becoming dated but they are still good gamers. Better then the 8600 and under cards.

I'm in a similar situation, my choices are a 512mb HD2900Pro or a 256mb HD3850. Either can be had for about $160.

I would probably go with HD3850 over HD2900 pro, because HD3850 offers almost identical performance in a much more efficient package with a few extras like UVD, VC1, H.264 hardware support.

The amount of VRAM memory (256mb vs. 512mb) will only makes a noticeable difference if you are gaming on a 20" or larger monitor.

The 3850 is also a lot less power hungry, and as Templar said, the same performance. Though, you could order a 3870 from best buy for $214 and use a 10% off coupon, it'd be worth the price difference in my eyes.

well, it won't be the 2900Pro for sure. All that's available is the Sapphire version with 256-bit memory, which from what I've read, is something of a dog.

Best Buy is sold out online on the 3870.
