Depends on the rest of the system configuration, especially the motherboard. Some newer motherboards do not provide 40 pin parallel ATA connections. However, if the motherboard supports both PATA and SATA, there shouldn't be any problems running a mixed system; I'm running 3 mixed PATA & SATA (Intel 945 & 975 chipset based) systems and have not encountered any problems to date.

If you want to connect the one to the other, then no. The connectors aren't the slightest bit similar, and if you manage to force it to fit, I can pretty much guarantee it won't work fine.

You can connect them both to the motherboard, as long as it has (or you can add in the form of PCI cards) both 40-pin parallel ATA and SATA connectors. And that will work fine.

There are also SATA-to-PATA adapters that will let you connect a PATA drive to an SATA cable and motherboard. (And there are adapters that do the opposite.)

I'm sorry if this reply seems patronizing, but I don't understand how someone could look at the specifications for a typical latest-generation motherboard, see the "1xPATA" and "4xSATA" connectors listed in the specifications, and imagine that they don't work? It's not like the connectors are on there for decoration...

I think addicted and Reigncall are both spammers. notice their sigs, one has a link for phone center stuff and the other has a link for ip, pbx, and voip stuff.

at least the spammers are getting creative and posting "real", if ridiculous, topics.
