Unhappy Squealing noises with new Hiper HPU-4M730

Need some help on this one...especially opinion from you Jonny

Today I picked up "Hiper HPU-4M730-SU" 730W PSU to replace, dead (under
warranty, thank god) Blue Hiper Type-R 580W modular PSU.

I've chosen Hiper 4M730 because, among other things, it was listed as "Tier
2" PSU on Jonny's list. That should mean something, right?
First I noticed its pretty loud, but I expected it since it was 1x80mm fan
design, ok moving on... next, to my horror, when my OS booted up and I
"dragged" the first window I heard the"squeal" coming from PSU. After I
started 3DMark I knew what I was dealing with. Yes, this PSU squeals like a
stuck pig while running 3D applications or playing overlay video or even
scrolling stuff in windows.

So what are my options here? Is it just some kind of interference between my
video card (MSI 8800GTS 640mb) and PSU, or we are talking oscillating toroid
coils or transformers?

So far I tried reorganizing cables, different combinations. Also tried
different PCI-E (have 4 on PSU) connectors that go into my 8800. Nothing
seems to change.

I could try a different video card tomorrow to rule out interference.

Does this PSU unit have a weak spot and it will fail soon or it will "squeal"
away happily for 10 years 'till I go insane?

This is my PSU timeline: in 2004 got Tagan 420W- died in one year, got Hiper
Type-R 580W as replacement with adding some cash. That worked for almost 2 years and died few days ago, added some cash for this 730W and now it
squeals. Guess I should take it back and see if I have more luck with other
brand? Something tells me it wont be Hiper this time!

Plz, help, I'm at my wits end!

This is a PSU im talking about:

Can't believe no one had similar problems..I noticed this before in my past work but never to this extent. Its also been knows for some mainboards to make same "squealing" noises under load. Antec PSU at some point in time were notorious for similar noises.

I cant stand it while gaming, I think I will return it for some other PSU tomorrow.

Can someone recommend me something from this list/store:

http://www.hgspot.hr/komponente.aspx?grupa=83

Fortron Epsilons pretty much suck, right?

I hear OK reviews from new Chieftec 750W CFT-750-14C ?

Silverstone has only 1 year warranty in this country! So thats ruled out.

Someone plz say something since I'm in a rush...has to go back tomorrow.

Thanks in advance, everyone...

RMA the Hiper because it's apparently just one bad unit?

Thanks for answering and know that I appreciate a lot your work and all the PSUs reviewing you did. You really helped to shed some light on these PSU mysteries that picked up in last few years.

How do you know it's one bad unit? I'm afraid the new one will exhibit same behavior. This seem to me like those squealing Seasonic S12II (while S12 was silent).

Is this model really based on Andyson AD-800? Mine has a purple PCB!?
It also seems there are two models: HPU-4M730-SU and HPU-4M730-SS. Most of reviews were based on HPU-4M730-SS and mine is HPU-4M730-SU. Hope they didn't switch to cheaper production...

We cant RMA stuff in Croatia. I have to take it back to place of purchase and rely on my diplomatic skills.

Because I've never heard of this problem with that unit.

You said yourself, you can't believe no one had similar problems.

If someone is interested how the whole story ended..

Today I returned that 730w Hiper and picked up brand new Hiper Type-M HPU-4M670-SU. Its almost the same PSU except little weaker, 670W instead of 730W. It exhibited exactly the same behavior. Under load and 3D it was making same squealing high frequency noises! (10khz area) So it was not that I had a defective unit. It seems the whole series is prone to EMI or has loose transformer coils! My conclusion is that these PSUs really belong in servers (after all they are AD-800) where the fan noise and EMI are not an issue. Cannot recommend this to any silent PC owners.

Returned all the Hipers, picked up 50% cheaper Chieftec GPS-550AB-A (Delta build) got some cash back and going to spend the money difference on booze

I know its not the top quality PSU but at least its not squealing and its running my E6600 and 8800GTS stable.

End of story...I will think twice again before buying expensive PSUs.

You can buy expensive PSU's but you should pick one carefully.
Chieftec Delta build it's a fine PSU. Maybe not with whistle and bells but is doing his job.

Maybe it's not the PSU's fault. Maybe it's the motherboard.

Uhm..well did I mention I'm running Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev3.3.
Now things are geting more clear...it seems that Hypers were acting as amplyfiers/speakers in my case. It's not only Gigabyte, I read from one guy about similar issues with some Asus boards and Corsair PSUs.

I bet half of the users out there never notice this..I'm really good at hearing high freq. and can always hear some hi freq. garbage noise from mainboard / and video cards.

How come that less sofisticated / cheaper PSUs are free of this noise? At least in my case.
