Default Budget PSU - Coolermaster or Thermaltake?

Hello,

Just wondering what the general opinion is on Coolermaster vs Thermaltake as far as budget PSU's are concerned.

In Australia we have a fine selection from the following:

Coolermaster Extreme 430W - $55
Coolermaster Extreme 500W - $69
Coolermaster Extreme 550W - $75

Thermaltake 430W - $39
Thermaltake TR2 470W - $75
Thermaltake TR2 550W - $109

The kind of system it would be power is along the lines of:

E6750, 2GB RAM, 8600GT, Single SATA HDD, Single DVDRW, 2 case fans, USB mouse + keyboard. No overclocking.

Apologies if this has been already covered, i did a search. Thanks

TT 430w has 19amps on 12v rail and made by HEC/Compucase

TT 470 is made by Channelwell, not sure about the 550.

If the Coolermasters are the newer PCAR designs then the 430 is made by Hipro. The 500 and 550 don't have a UL number listed on their label, but the 600w version has Seventeam internals.

If your room temperature isn't too hot, then the Channelwell built TT470 would be fine although I'm not enthused about any of your choices.

Coolermaster 430W older models have 19 amps on the 12V and are rebadged 430W hipro models. I've got one myself. The newer models have 28A+ on the 12V and I'm not sure who they are made by. My older 430W coolermaster extreme (19A version) ran my Core 2 duo rig flawlessly.

Definitely the 430W Coolermaster IMO.

They are very popular in Aus, and are great value PSU's. The PCAR model has 29A on the +12V rails, and has been known to run overclocked quad core + overclocked 8800GTS systems.

The 430W Coolermaster sold at MSY(looks like where you might be buying from judging by the prices) is definitely a PCAR with 29A on the +12V rails(as are most you will find now)

The 500/550W CM Extreme's are often complained about for being loud.

The 430W TT is really only a 300W with 18A on the +12V, and is an older ATX 1.3 spec PSU.

Hey, can you guys in down under get Silverstone Element ST50EF-Plus there ? We're neighbor countries, and i can get that PSU for 85-88 US$ with VAT (10%) and custom fee (5%) counted in here in Indonesia. Awesome product for the price, unless Corsair HX 520 price is within your budget.

The Silverstone ST50EF Plus is available in Aus, it sells for ~$100-105, about double what the CM 430W sells for.

It is a great PSU, but not needed in this case IMO.

Corsair HX-520 is ~$140 AUD BTW.
