Default Please Advice on These 2 Setup for 2 Rigs.

Rig 1.

C2Q 6600 G0 Stepping Processor
MSI P35 Platinium (DDR2) Mainboard
2 x 1GB of Corsair XMS2 800MHz CL5 Memory
MSI RX2900XT 512MB DDR3 Graphics Card OR MSI 8800GTS 320MB ?

WD 250GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Seagate 160GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Antec 900 Casing
Silverstone Zeus ST75ZF 750W Power Supply

Please advice on this setup and recommend me a good HSF for my CPU, If i'm intending to O/C this baby to 3.2Ghz, will it be able to run stable for day-to-day usage (gaming, surfing, office, watchin vids)

Rig 2
C2Q 6600 G0 Stepping Processor OR C2D E6750 Processor?
MSI P35 Neo OR MSI P6N Diamond Mainboard?
MSI RX2600XT 256MB O/C or MSI 8600GTS 320MB O/C Edition?
4 x 1GB Corsair 667MHz DDR2 RAM?
WD 250GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Thermaltake Soprano DX Casing

Ok.

Depending on the OS, you could opt for 4 GB.

Both are good options. I'd go for 2900XT not just because it's more powerful but also because P35 and P965 boards offer crossfire (albeit in 16x4 form) as an option. It also consumes more power but with your choice of PSU, this is not really that important. BTW why this attachment to MSI ?

Weird looking setup. I guess you're porting some of these from an older machine. I'd go for more storage instead of a Raptor but it's fast, that's for sure.

Good choice for PSU. I don't like this chassis that much but it's just a matter of personal taste.

Look at the coolers from Thermalright, Thermaltake, Zalman etc. They all have products that will do the job. Examples :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835887002

What's this rig for ? A backup ? For a friend or a relative ?

OK, you have a fixation for MSI <g>. Huge price difference between the two. Can't make a choice without knowing what this PC is for.

I don't think 8600GTSs have a 320MB option, available only as 256 MB editions. 2600XTs have 512 MB versions that are cheaper than 8600GTSs. 8600GTS generally performs better than 2600XT in games. If you buy a SLI board get the Nvidia one, otherwise a 512MB 2600XT is a better option as it's cheaper. BTW this is a good deal if this machine won't be an ultimate gaming rig :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161179

Note that this one is a 256MB GDDR3 card, that's why it's cheap, but still a good deal.

Why DDR2 667 ? Price ? You'll need a 64-bit OS.

Quote:
WD 250GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Thermaltake Soprano DX Casing
Silverstone Zeus ST75ZF 750W Power Supply
All fine.

You'll need optical drives, OSes etc. Why you're building two Intel rigs ? You can build a very nice AMD system for less money.

Rig 1
CPU OK
MB My personal taste is for ABIT IP35 Pro or Gigabyte DS4/DQ6
MEM OK
GPU My personal taste again: 8800GTS 640 (if you'll play in high resolutions) but if you don't mind about heat and noise go for X2900XT
HDD's A mixed bag I see. Raptor for OS and others for data I presume
CASE A bling-bling dust vacuum cleaner, but it's a matter of taste. If you like it it's OK.
PSU I'd prefer Corsair HX620, but Zeus is fine.
HS TR Ultra-120 Extreme plus a fan at your choice or Scythe Infinity (Mugen) with 2 fan's in push-pull if you want to OC hard.

Rig 2
- if it's a "easy" rig
CPU E6550
MB ABIT IP35(E) or Gigabyte P35-(D)S3
GPU a 8600GT or Galaxy 8600GE
MEM OK. Quantity over quality forever.
HDD OK, but look for AAKS series
CASE Another bling-bling case, but it's fine if you like it
PSU Corsair VX450 or HX520 for this setup

First rig is OK for overclock and gaming in "human" resolutions, and with second indeed you can go cheaper with an AMD platform without loosing obvious performance.

yep.. i'm importin the 2 hdd from my old com in.. :P the reason i'm going all for MSI and Corsair.. is becuz my local distributor for both the products are the same.. so its more convenient if i wanna RMA the stuffz if anything goes wrong.. haha.. more of a convenice option..

btw.. does the antec 900 have any dust filter? oh yeah.. the thermaltake V1 cpu cooler looks good and performs just as well.. was considering it but its almost S$90.. which is abt US$60.. quite ex for a cooler..

the second rig is for not so intensive gaming.. probably mostly online games, female user for the com.. so probably doesn't need so high end as not playing so much intensive games, so dont need for too high end cpu n gpu..

maybe u can introduce me a good set up for a AMD rig which is quite equivalent to the E6750/E6550?

Thanks once again.

CPU X2 4400+/4800+ with 1Mb L2 cache
MB ABIT KN-9S
HS Scythe Ninja fanless
MEM 4 GB Corsair DDR667/800
HDD WD 2500AAKS
GPU Gainward BLISS 8600GT GS GLH
CASE Soprano if you like it, or Antec NSK6000 or Nexus Caterpillar if you want a silent case out-the-box
PSU Corsair VX450

This is just a example and it's more than enough for what you want for it: "mostly online games, female user for the com.."

From your second post, I believe you're from Singapore but would be great if you put it in your personal info.

I'll take my time and make more than one recommendation since I'm happy as we moved to CL :

Option A : Full AMD System

Mainboard :
MSI K9A Platinum
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130057
This is a crossfire board.

CPU :
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103759
The L2 cache is larger than cheaper models. HSF included.

Memory :
Corsair DDR2 667 4x 1GB modules (or 2x 2GB kits, like the one below) :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098

HDD :
Samsung 400GB 16MB Cache SATA :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152085

Video :
MSI AMD/ATI HD2600XT OC 256 MB GDDR4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127305
If not enough in future, you will be able another for a crossfire setup and the price will be lower.

Optical :
Lite-on DVD-+RW with Lightscribe Technology
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106055

Option B : Nvidia SLI System

Mainboard :
MSI K9N SLI Platinum
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130048

Video :
MSI NX8600GT-T2D256E OC GeForce 8600GT 256MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127286
You can add another for a SLI setup later.

Option B : Value System

This is a cheaper system that will be able to handle some online games (like some MMORPGs).

Mainboard :
MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital AM2 AMD 690G HDMI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130119
Onboard video. HDMI output.

CPU :
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103774

No need to change other parts as they are relatively inexpensive.

Other thoughts :
1. Choosing a computer case is a matter of personal taste. However there are a few thing to consider :
a. Space : Perhaps a mini tower will be better or a full tower, it depends on your needs.
b. Weight : For a female (or elderly) user weight could be a problem. Aluminum chassis may be better choice in this case. Of course they can always call you to carry it <g>.
c. Looks : With window or not, color, with a front door or not etc.

2. PSU : Corsair HX520. You'll probably build this one with video cards that don't require external feed. So you won't need PCI-e cables. If you buy a SATA Optical drive (not recommended) you can use just one cable for drives. Very clean cable setup inside.

3. There are cheaper alternative for motherboards etc.

4. Check full compatibility of the parts before making a purchase. I didn't care about this when writing the list above.

5. OS : Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Otherwise buying DX10 cards or 4 GB of memory wouldn't be meaningful.
