I bet he had badcaps before, and this just pushed them past their breaking point. If it hadn't been this dmeo something else would have.

I'm going to avoid Bioshock altogether since it comes complete with a DRM infestation courtesy of Sony. Not a rootkit this time, but there's a lot of "phone home" garbage that the game installs.

So? What is the big deal? That was/is an Antec SmartPower, they are supposed to do that.
It is called cascading effect. Too bad it didn't take out a HDD from 5V spikes at BOOT.
Google Fuhjyyu and the second and third hits are threads over at Badcaps. The Urban Dictionary defines Fuhjyyu as a Chinese word for feces.

If it is still in warranty Antec will send out a Trio?, I think a Trio, as a replacement. Big deal!

I hate all Smart and True Power Antec units because they cause more problems than their cheap asses are worth.

well at least a trio doesn't have any fuhjyya caps in it! and its Seasonic made, should be fairly reliable. otherwise yeah smartpower/truepower are horrible psu's imo.

I totally boycott Sony and their DRM crap.

As for the power supply, looking at the rest of the machine, I am guessing he got more than a couple good years out of it.

Sound thinking??

A quality PSU would last 10 years and not be sending MB/card killing dirty current down stream during that time.

IMO a quality PSU would last around 2-3 years...

... because new components needing new connectors and ever-increasing GPU power requirements will make a replacement unit a reasonable choice.

Your are reaching Zap.
JEDEC wants consumer hardware to offer a service life of 5 years and server based hardware to offer 10 years.
A quality PSU can be refitted with any requiored connectors after 3 years and keep on truckin'. Might want to change out the fan at the same time.

That's kinda hard to do when Intel keeps changing the spec every other year. Imagine all those people who bought +5v heavy PSU's and then upgrade to a motherboard requires an ATX12V PSU a couple years later.
