Hi people once again another supersad recommendation thread:
My bro and I are putting the pieces to the puzzle on our new build and one of the main issues was the PSU. Keyfactor to my brother is the 8-pin PCI-E connector. We want a PSU that has enough juice but also some major specifications which will prove durable in time without getting overkill. I thought that the HX620 with new PCI-E cables (2 cables of 1x6-pin+1x6+2-pin) would be ideal as it is a powerful single-rail (as proved by Jonny in his review ) supply with all the connections you need. The other competitor is the Coolermaster Real Power Modular 850W also known as the M850. It has 4 6-pin PCI-E native connectors and also 2 8-pin native connectors. It has 6(! omg uselessness going bezerk0?) seperate 12V rails each at 18 amps if I remember correctly. Now from what I've heard it's better to have more power on one big rail that is connected to all the connections on that work at 12V than to dedicate a rail to one connector each that has a lower current, correct? Also I'm thinking the HX620 connectors (with the new cables makes 2x 6-pin & 2x 8-pin) will suffice for a good time. Though as the HX620 was praised by Jonny, he also liked Real Power Pro from what I can tell from that review. It still is a Enhance so I'm careful with this baby.. Just let me know what you're thoughts are! And something to back your statement up would be very appreciated (so plz no "Get the HX620 I have it and it rocks"). What we're looking for is a powerful modular power supply that can run in a current rig as more future rigs, so all those new connectors is a must! I live in Holland. This means all of the mainstream PSU's are available with some exceptions nothing really bad (maybe the Ultra X3's) Thanks! Maybe I didn't get enough sleep, but... what are you asking?
![]() What do you plan to power?

This the plan: Q6600 G0 + Tower 120 (OC to 3,6-4,0GHz) 2x1GB G.Skill HZ's P5K-E T7K500 320GB 8800GTS 320mb (maybe bit OC'ing) in a TJ-09SW My brother said he wanted the M850 because it has the native PCI-E 8-pin connections. I said the HX620 was a better choice and with the optional cabling powering 8-pin videocards is possible. So I said in the first line: "another recommendationthread" so the question is a bit obvious, which one to choose or if anyone can think of a better one, which would you recommend. Everything else you need to know in the OP. Last edited by dieqast; 08-17-2007 at 11:01 AM. |

I'm just not familiar with CM's 850W. I know the HX620W would be more than enough.

And what about a Decathlon, how do they stack up against the HX? I really like the Olympia but hasn't got a modular interface which I really prefer. But that Decathlon-review you did really showed the Olympia & Decathlon aren't alike in performance, or are they?

The Olympia and Decathlon really should be alike in performance. It may not seem like that in the reviews, but they're two different watage units.

So you prefer a DA650 or rather a HX620 if you look at the general picture of both units?

Between the two, the Decathalon 650 is a more solid build. The voltage regulation goes to hell on the higher up models.
