Default Corsair VX450W power supply review

http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=125

From the front page. Looks like this one does not handle cross loads as well as it's bigger brothers (very unrealistic test #1, but test#7 is possible with everybody and their dog looking to run 800GTX SLI on pico-watt units... ).

The wave shapes are a bit odd though. Any switching related artifacts are usually periodic, but one solitary step in a 20ms time span? If this happens on a wider time-scale, switching effects can be ruled out entirely...

Default CORSAIR VX450W at jonny

jonny, a BIG THANK YOU for your review. I guess I just found my new love, Corsair VX
PcPer review is pretty close with your tests/impressions so it seems that is a damn good PSU.
BTW it looks identical inside with S-12 II.

LE: LOL, Super Nade was faster.

A bit off-topic but here goes:-

My case gets hot, I mean super hot (54 C ambient). This is with a balls to the walls x1900xtx (700/820), which hits 86 C. Imagine running a maxxed out 2900XT CF or SLI. Only a fool would recommend a dinky 450W-500W PSU under such conditions...

Thanks for the review Jonny, I love to see smaller wattage units being tested as that all that 95% of enthusiasts need.

I was impressed by the quality of the capacitors used inside, bravo to Corsair and Seasonic for not skimping on this value supply. The transients are weird but as you said 30mV isn't a big deal.

I guess the main advantage that this has over the Antec NeoHE and 5150GH is the fact that it is a single rail design, but that shouldn't matter too much if you aren't running SLI anyways. Might have been good for someone trying to run a 2900XT or something, but you would need an adapter.

Anyways, glad to see a lower wattage PSU review, any plans to look at the Antec Basiqs or XClio Good/Greatpowers?

Yea, I agree its good to see some lower power PSU reviews.

I'm sick of seeing overkill PSU reviews, although I would like to see jony review the Seasonic X900..

The PSU looks pretty good, and single rail is always nice IMO.

2 6pin connectors would be nice, but its not hard to get an adapter.

EDIT... and the guys are helping me out with testing the power supplies I've obtained from the "Pimp My Power Supply" contest I ran at the beginning of the year. So I think we'll see our share of lower wattage units over the next couple months.

Yea but those people who won the pimp my PSU won because their PSUs were crap right?

I would love to see more reviews of good/decent quality low wattage units such as the Basiqs, XClios, and Ultra VSeries because usually I buy or recommend units for budget/midrange systems.
