Default Toughpower 1500w

Hey guys, what do you think of this new model they'll be bringing out?

http://www.thermaltake.com/product/P...0171/w0171.asp

A whopping 120A combined on the 12v rails

Four 8-pin AND four 6-pin PCI-express connectors.

Ah man, I'm actually pretty lost for words. What beast of a system did they have in mind when they dreamt up those kind of specs...

I could probably power two or three of My PCs with that monster, Possibly with some to spare too, If It didn't wind up tripping a breaker that is.

That's the HardOCPs review of the 1200w Toughpower, Not the 1500w.

It is UL listed according to Thermaltakes own website. Besides It's a bit early to say that It will never arrive, Of course Me I don't need that big a psu, At least not yet.

ThermalTake Toughpower 1500W PSU over at Tech Nudge, A whole two pages.

Google Thermaltake Toughpower 1500w psu search

I say that because I asked about it once and the response I got back was "it is only being offered for 230v right now". That was a bit ago but I have heard nothing different since.

It's still listed as 230V on their product page.

Unless you can combine the 12v rails into one, you can't make use of all the power.

With 40,40,20,20 setup and you've got two 30A video cards using both 40A rails and you've got two 12A devices, that's all you can use.

30>20, 30<40, but 30+12>40 and since 12+12>20(can't consolidate two devices to one 20A) you're stuck with using one rail per device. If in doubt you'd want to leave adequate overhead, so you don't exceed the current rating of ANY rail.

30 + 30 + 12 + 12 =84A, 36A available in 10,10,8,8 sections. This is an extreme example, but this is what happens with multiple rail setup. On paper, you can allocate the current precisely like that, but in real life, you can only guesstimate the current on each rail and you have to guess generously to avoid overloading any one of them.

I don't think they had any particular system in mind. Most likely the marketing dept decided they've got to have the biggest and baddest power rating that's capable of doing what they advertise, because number sells.

Sort of like the Enermax Galaxy DXX 850W I'm playing with right now. It has two rails just for CPU. The other three rails only total 408W! To put that into perspective: An Infiniti 720W would still have 22A left over for just the CPU if you take into consideration setting aside the same amount of power for non-CPU devices. Wow!
