I have an Antec True Power Trio 430 that Antec gave me to replace a True Power II 430. It blew up, I heard an explosion and the room filled with smoke.
I had just received from the UPS guy my new replacement video card, a 7950GT by EVGA, it was sent to me to replace a 7900GT CO by them that was artifacting. Could this new card have overloaded the Antec, or do you think the card is defective, or what? What do I do!? I need all of your advice before I contact EVGA and Antec.

even if it did overload the PSU, it shouldn't have caused it to blow up. Most likely it would have just shut down. Have you been able to determine if the PSU caused damage to any other components?

It doesn't look like it, but on the EVGA forums I saw someone else reporting this happening. Thing is, I have to handle this carefully, because the warranty is in the original seller's name. The video card came in a brand new sealed box. I am waiting to hear from Jonny, he must be very busy, but I am hoping to buy a supply from him.
I wonder if I should get the video card replaced, yet again? Note that I didn't change a single other thing on the computer nor did I connect or disconnect anything. Antec says if the supply was overloaded it could blow, but how would a 7900 not blow it up but a 7950 do it? Do you guys think the card is defective? I see no signs of damage on the card. There was some brownish liquid by the fan, I assume that this is the liquid from the capacitor that blew up? I am depressed, I have had so many computer problems over the last year it isn't funny, it makes me say, why me? sigh. All this cost of shipping parts for replacement is eating me alive, let alone weeks and weeks of no system use...

I'm trying to find where I put that damn Infiniti. It's not in the pile with the other PSU's. I need to go look in my trunk.
edit: nm.. found it. It was under my desk. PM sent.

Jonny, please read my reply when you have a chance. My roomate gave me a gentle prodding to look into getting something with a factory warranty, and we called PCP&C and they sold us a Silencer 750 Quad for about 139, refurbished with full warranty, roomate encouraged me to jump on it so I wouldn't have to wait for a long time, I have already been sans a system for a couple weeks, yuch.
![]() I thought you were too busy to get back to me so I went for it, and darn, then I got your message. Man, sorry. Would the Enermax have been a better supply than the Silencer 750 Quad? Roomate gently prodded me to go for it because of the warranty, seeing as I have had 5 computer parts fail on me in the last 4 months! I am NOT a very lucky guy, makes me wonder why I ever play the lottery! ![]() Roomate wants to pour a bucket of cold water on me, heh. He saw the puff of smoke and felt bad for me so he ordered it so I could have it sooner. Man, I feel bad missing out on your offer now!

I will tell you PC Power & Cooling is very good about honoring there warrantys...
I believe the silencer has a 3 yr warranty.... Still can`t go wrong with that PSU..... There are many good pSU`s on the market.... With your luck I would say warranty is everything,...lolol |

The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W is a fine and very powerful unit. But in my opinion it is a somewhat overkill for your pc setup. Also it's a refurbished unit.
Maybe consider a new Corsair HX 520 (if you can cancel the order) which is also a high quality Seasonic built, similar to the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W and Seasonic M12/S12. The 40 amps on the HX520 is more than enough for your pc setup. Corsair HX 520 after rebate: $79.99 (original price $99.99) (Free shipping)! By the way, Corsair gives you a 5 year warranty for the HX series power supply. Good luck! |

Yeah, but I hope to upgrade video cards in the coming months, and add HDs, so I wanted to cover my bases. The Corsair was definitely a consideration. Order has been made so I guess I am locked in now. Roomate kind of pressured me to get something with a warranty as he is tired of seeing stuff fail on me and me not being covered...
