Question Looking at Silverstone ST1000 or DA850 or similiar <~$250

Hello,

First off I must say this is my first post and I am looking for a new power supply for a new build. I have been browsing jonnyguru.com for a couple of months now. I am considering the ST1000 or DA850 by Silverstone. They are both new products and as such have no reviews available about their quality.

The only requirements for the PSU that I am looking for is that I would like them to be:
  • modular
  • > (greater than) 850W
  • < under $250 or so (excluding shipping)
  • Fit in my Lian Li V1000 Case (reverse ATX)
  • Have native 8 Pin (s)
  • Last Pretty Much Forever

I also am aware of the Ultra X3, but am skeptical like many on ultra and prefer the sleeved cables as opposed to their force flex. I've also looked at Thermaltake's line (750w/850w) and Enermax's DXX series, but have concluded that Silverstone has the best quality and customer service)

I got an R600 on the way and would like to order a PSU within the next week or two.

Does anyone know if these two the DA850/ST1000 come with the correct 8-pin cables?

Thanks in advance,
dr4gon

btw: does anyone know if deadeyedata.com is still taking the 8% off JG coupon, and where do you enter it?

X3 1000W: Totally understand about the FlexForce cables. Personally, I like them. And I know others that like them more than regular cables too. But I also know a number of people that have no clue what to do with them and it always pisses me off when I see a case with a cluster of FlexForce cables in the middle of everything because the person that built the machine made no effort to hide them.

OP1000 vs. DA850: You do realize these are two TOTALLY different units, right? My only reservation with the OP1000 is the single 80MM fan. It gets hot as hell in that housing. It IS a good, hell, great quality build. But hot is hot. The v 1.1 OP1000 does have the correct 8-pin.

Thermaltake: Like the SilverStones, the 750W and 850W are totally different build quality from the 1000W and 1200W. Even if the 1000W is overkill, well, you have people that buy Porsches and never drive over 70. Why do they own a Porsche?

And AFAIK, the jG coupon is still good.

thanks JG, I was talking about the ST1000 though not the OP1000 (too expensive :\)

Any thoughts on the ST1000 versus the DA850? As far as I can tell both have 70A, ST1000 is dual 12V, DA850 is single 12V.

What about the 8-pin cables, any word on those or the difference in quality between the two??

And lastly, if you had to rank the X3, DA850, and ST1000 which would you rank 1,2,3 (Just your most honest opinion, i know you haven't reviewed all 3)

My guess is you might rank it as X3 > DA850 > ST1000 ( )

I like your Porsche analogy btw

Umm.. link me to the "ST1000" because the only ST1000 I know of is the SevenTeam 1000W before Silverstone slaps the "OP1000" label on it.

Oh... that's an Enhance. If you'd have hung around here for a while, you'd know that > 600W on an Enhance is teh suck.
