Default please help this forum...

jonny, i need your help to enlighten techsupportforum.com on psu issues... i dont have the expertise to make these people understand that theres no need for people with mid range, and heck even high end, single card systems to buy power supplies that are ridiculously overpowered for their systems... it just irks me that these poor guys are spending like 150 on a psu thats not necessary at all and just takes away money from their other components. you just dont need a 750 watter for a single card system, even one with an 8800gtx...

I'm not jonny, but Mantralord has a nice post about this problem.
Maybe you can just point them to that post.

I don't see a problem there. Let them...It sure is better than them going out and getting a "500w" generic unit to power their mid-high end SLI system. It is all about the e-penis, just as jonny mentioned in that post. Maybe some of these people will eventually upgrade? At least they have a power supply that can handle everything being upgraded.

i understand, but its like the reverse of what was common before... there was an issue a few years ago when computers first started consuming high amount of power and cheap psus couldnt handle it any longer, but theyre buying overkill. way overkill. 700+w power supplies are for those with sli, tons of hard drives and fans, and water cooling. not for those with a single gpu, two fans and a hard drive... most of the guys even post that they dont plan on adding anything major like a second video card...

I try and get people to see that the point isn't how many watts, but the quality of the supply and the things it does and can do and do well. Since few know what ripple is, I use that as an example. But sadly, a huge portion of n00b builders REFUSE to listen about getting a quality supply, they often seem to have a mental block against appreciating that it is at the core of a system. Sad thing is, they often come back when their system gets borked and still wonder why.
