Exclamation Ultra X2 or X-Finity

I can purchase either one of these for the same price the X2 is 550 watts and the X-Finity is 600 watts, I just wanted to get opinions on which one is the better psu before I purchase it. Thanks in advance. I can also get a Mad Dog SurePower 550 Watts psu for the same price

The X2 is quieter and modular.

What's your build? What will this power?

Mad Dog? They're still around?

I am running a P4 3.0 processor socket 478, a gig of ram, a sound card, 2 hard drives, a X800GTO to go agp card, a dvd drive, cd drive, 3 fans, a zalman grahpic card fan and the heatsink. I know I've never heard of mad dog before their supposed to be by the makers of SurePower I think their from Canada but im not sure.

Please don't buy the X2 if you value quietness. That fella is one noisy bugger. I went from an X2 to Corsair HX620 just recently.

Wow. Let's just say my room got a whole lot quieter. Even my system at full load, the corsair is still far way quieter than the X2.

P.S Thanks for recommending the corsair. Really does what it says it does

I have 3 X2's sitting here and two are in machines. They are not load in any way. Mine are barely audible.

Kevin,

Sounds like you either got an X2 with a defective fan controller or you're really sensirive to noise. Any relation to Mike Chin?

I will admit that the Corsair is much quieter than the X2. But I certainly wouldn't call a properly functioning X2 "loud."

Katie,

Your rig is a very light load. Either will work, but the X2 is quieter and modular so that would be a good choice.

Hi Jonny,

A defective fan controller eh? I'll ring Ultra and see what they say. I hope the customer service here in OZ is good and who's Mike Chin?

Well I'm partially sensitive to noise I guess but even then the X2 is almost as loud as what I am experiencing now with my system on dual Prime95 with my Panaflo going at 2100 rpm using the corsair. When using the X2, even at idle you can hear the X2 fan ramping up after 5 minutes of loading Windows when my CPU fan (Panaflo 2100rpm) is not even moving. And that's just surfing and listening to music.

So do you still think I have a defective fan controller based on the comparison I have given?

After swapping it with the Corsair the only annoying sound is a tiny clicking sound coming from my GFX I know cause I used my fingers to physical stop my GFX fan. Annoying bugger

Thanks for the tip. Will try to RMA it and sell it off if I can

Mike Chin is SPCR, silentpcreview.com. Quiet is their only priority when reviewing anything.

I know you guys wont believe this but im actually thinking about getting the Mad Dog psu. One of the main reasons is that I can just go pick it up at the store and not wait on it for a week, but also because it has pretty good specs heres a link to them http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=115 I've heard their a rebranded SuperFlower PSU but other than that I've heard good stuff what do ya'll think?

Sorry I think that was the wrong link im not sure at circuit city it says 550 watts but on their website its 500 watts with a max output of 550 well anyway heres the link to the right one...I think http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=114

Where are the good specs? How many amps can it do on the +12V rail? I even opened the manual PDF and couldn't find any real "specs."

From where???

If you want something "off the shelf" at Circuit City and have something that's really trustworthy, get an Antec Trio instead. At least I can show you "good specs."
