Default Fan noise Seasonic Prime Gold 650w

Hi everyone

I've had a Seasonic Prime Gold 650w in my pc for about 6 months now I think and from the start the fan is making this odd 'rattling' noise. After some time I got annoyed by it so I rma'd it and received a new unit. Sadly the new unit has exactly the same problem so now I'm starting to think it is normal.

The guy in this youtube video has the exact same problem (might have to turn up the volume a bit).

I would like to ask people here that have the same power supply to confirm/deny if the fan is supposed to sound like that.

Thanks in advance,
Arjen

I also own a Seasonic Prime Gold 650W and at the beggining the fan had the same noise, like I already mentioned on the other thread. This rattling sound is covered by the warranty like Seasonic Rep informed me on the forum and PM.

This "rattling" sound is common just with the units wich comes with defective fans but definitley not in all units since I own also a Prime 850 Titanium, two guys at my workplace had one Platinum 650W and a Gold 750W unit, and I've replaced 8 crappy PSU's with Focuses 550W and no one had the same problem.

Definitley you should RMA that unit and ask Seasonic to replace just the fan (if possible), not the entire unit.

You have to pay shipping to send it back?

AFAIR the Seasonic EU RMA center is in the Netherlands, so he wouldn't have to pay a lot for shipping.

I'm just gonna send it back to the retailer since on seasonics website it says "Warranty claims should be initiated through your regional retailer." and in their RMA procedure I could only find the industrial psus. When the product is found defect the retailer refunds shipping cost. Since I got a new unit last time I assuming I can reclaim the shipping.

Edit: You think its better to just rma it to Seasonic? I'm not too bothered about shipping cost so could still do that.

Hello Arjen,

Sorry to read your issue.
Do you think possible to contact us and provide all all details about both PSU's you have in order to track them. For RMA, it's possible to do it directly with us. Please note that our RMA Center for EU is in Germany.

Thank you very much and sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.
Best Regards

Its look like the noise its from start/stop fan rotation.
Try to change mode.

Ok I send the information I know(serial numbers/purchase dates) to Seasonic.

So I want to send the unit to Seasonic for repairs, but how do I request an rma? I'm getting an "Oops! That page can't be found." When I do Consumer -> RMA -> Apply for RMA. (http://www2.seasonic.com/support)
