Default Part of the reason PSU's cost what they do?

Price-fixing allegations here.

Explains why a number of my suppliers wanted to qualify Nichicon as a second source. At the beginning of this year, we saw a serious spike in cost of capacitors.

This may also explain why some PSU manufactures use Chinese capacitors even though they tend to fail prematurely.

No. Japanese brand caps have ALWAYS been more expensive than others.

But recently, NCC/UCC caps have spiked up in price.

I could see some PSU manufacture ditch Japanese capacitors in favor of others.

It could have also played a role in making the capacitor plague as bad as it was as manufactures would be ditching them because of the rising prices. (That's if the price hiking started around the early 2000's)

Did you see the date of the article? We're talking about this week. Not 10 years ago.

"The US Department of Justice suspects Nippon Chemi-Con was one of eight global manufacturers that conspired to drive up the price of the ubiquitous components for more than 15 years."

So probably just after the capacitor plague
